"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
And He delights in his way."
Psalm 37:23 NKJV
Kai waited outside the post office until the lobby was clear. Then he went straight to Box 7 and put in the combination. Peering inside, he saw two un-marked envelopes, one small and letter-sized, the other big and bulky.
In a twinkling of an eye, so fast the security camera could not have caught it, Kai had the outfit in the bulky envelope out and on his person.
"Well, now," Kai thought, "This outfit fits a lot better than last time."
He shuddered as he recalled having to dress like a lumberjack with steel-toed boots. At least this time, he'd be working in a coffee shop wearing khakis and a polo.
And ... he could have a cup of joe! Earthly food did not compare with heavenly; yet over his different assignments, he had learned to love coffee. How nice of the Lord to set him up in an assignment where he could enjoy coffee again!
Walking outside, he drew out the contents of the smaller envelope and looked at the resumé and the cash. From past assignments, he had learned it made humans suspicious if he showed up without a physical address, so his first move was to find an apartment in the area.
"Couldn't be too fancy, though," he mused, "since a barista does not make that much money."
Seeing a newsstand near the bus stop, Kai strode over and bought a local newspaper. Then looking around and finding a park bench, he sat down and studied the classified section. Sure enough, there were apartments for rent and choosing two, he fished in his pocket for a pencil to circle them. Of course, there was one!
"Simon, being efficient again!" Kai thought. "Why, he even thinks of pencils in the pockets. He really is the best at his job."
In the other pocket, Kai found a burner cell phone, and he called and made appointments to view both of his possibilities.
"Hmmm... what should I do in the meantime?"
He decided to walk around the neighborhood and get acquainted with the area.
"Maybe, I'll see Morgan!"
Thanks for joining us today! You will learn more about Kai and his plan to get Morgan's attention in my serial, Angel on Assignment: The Book of Morgan.
This serial is not intended to be doctrine. Scripture does tell us angels come to warn, bring messages and sometimes watch over us. It also tells us we could possibly unknowingly entertain an angel. My serial is just me imagining how that might look in our present day and time.
Join me tomorrow for more of the story. Each day, you can go here to see all the links for each installment of the series as they go live.
Tomorrow's offering: Settling In
What do YOU think? Would you be suspicious if someone showed up to work a new job but didn't have a place to live yet?
