Morning Pick-Me-Up #4

Do you need a little somethin’ somethin’ to get your day started? Is your spirit feeling a tad low?

Then stop and reflect on who you are in Christ!

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. Romans 8:28-29 New Living Translation

As my readers know, I often bring up my favorite “benchmark” scripture of Romans 8:28 to apply in almost any situation of life.

Today, let's focus on verse 29 which explains why sometimes the working together for good seems painful.

It’s because we are chosen to become like the Son.

We already know how far from the Son our natural man is. Bringing us near and conforming us into His image involves a lot of pulling and tugging that does not feel all that comfortable.

In fact, it can be quite painful!

It’s been said,  “God cares more about our character than our comfort.”

We are often encouraged to set goals for our lives.

God has one goal for each one of His children: to be like Jesus.

And He will do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal. Whatever it takes.

Recap:  Who am I in Christ? If I’m a believer, Romans 8:28-29 tells me:

  • Everything will work together for good. For HIS purpose.
  • I am called
  • I have a purpose
  • He knew me in advance
  • He chose me to be like His Son
  • His Son is my older brother
  • I have a lot of brothers and sisters.

Hey! I feel better already! What about you?

Morning Pick-Me-Up #3

Do you need a little somethin’ somethin’ to get your day started? Is your spirit feeling a tad low?

Then stop and reflect on who you are in Christ!

I was reading today one of my favorite portions of scripture:  John 15. So much is packed into that chapter. There’s enough here for several pick-me-ups! (*Grin.)

Want to read more about fruitiness? Click here.

For now, I’d like to focus on verses 15-16:

No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

Have you ever felt what you do doesn’t matter all that much? Well, the above scripture tells me as a child of God, I am:

  • A friend of Jesus (Now, there’s a wondrous thought!)
  • Chosen
  • Appointed to bear fruit, AND
  • My fruit will last, and THEN
  • Whatever I ask of the Father, He will give me.

So much goodness packed in that little bundle of scripture!

What really speaks to me this morning is the thought I’m going to bear fruit. I’ve been appointed to do it (it has been purposed for me – and as Proverbs 19:21 tells us, what God purposes WILL prevail).

Not only that – my fruit will last.

As a Mom and MiMi, it seems a lot of my work must be done over and over. You can never feed your family just once and they will never be hungry again. Our laundry basket will be filled and refilled repeatedly (sometimes in one day)!

But my work is not just running the home – it’s building love and security into the heart of my family by showing I care about their needs.

Anytime you extend love to others, it will bear fruit, and it will last because the memory of that caring will always be with that person.

This should be done in the home: but love and caring needs to be shown also in the church, in the workplace – hey! Even in the checkout line at WalMart.

So, go out there and face the day doing your part to show the love of Jesus to someone.

It will be worth it!

Morning Pick-Me-Up

Do you need a little somethin’ somethin’ to get your day started? Is your spirit feeling a tad low?

Feast on this Word – meditate on it all day long:

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. 1 Peter 1:3-5 NLT

Do you see what I see?

Because I am a believer in Christ, according to this scripture:

  • I’m born again
  • I live with great expectation (Or hope!)
  • I have a priceless inheritance reserved in heaven for me where nothing can touch it!
  • I am protected by God

I don’t know about you, but I feel better after reading who I am in Christ.
