When I first started blogging, eons ago, I remember mentioning one of my childhood dreams was to be a glamorous international spy. I was heavily influenced by mystery novels, James Bond movies, and television shows such as Get Smart and Honey West. (Now I'm showing my age.)
I always laugh at this story because in real life I am very unobservant. Someone could be passing secret information right under my nose and I would never notice it.
I don't pay attention.
At my church, one of our speakers often teaches on the theme, "Pay attention to the Holy Spirit's Leading." In fact, he says it so often, I tease him that his epitaph on his tombstone should read, "I told you to pay attention."
But he is right. What good is it to spend time in prayer and read the Word if you don't pay attention to what He says? And by paying attention, it really means obeying what He says.
Have you ever given a child instruction and it's like your words flew in one ear and out the other without the child noticing?
I wonder if God feels the same about me ...
Here's just a couple verses of scripture about paying attention:
I set my heart on your precepts
and pay close attention to all your ways.
Psalm 119:15
So pay careful attention to your hearts as you hear my teaching, for to those who have open hearts, even more revelation will be given to them until it overflows. And for those who do not listen with open hearts, what little light they imagine to have will be taken away.” Luke 8:18 TPT
Welcome to Day 19 of the #Write28Days challenge. During the month of February, I'll be examining what my world looks like after 2020. I feel we are ever closer to the Lord's return. What would it look like if I lived everyday with that thought in mind?
This could be my last February 19th before He comes.
The truth is, it IS the last February 19th for some, because He comes back every day for somebody.
It could be me. It could be you. It could be every believer.
My prayer is to leave an impact. What about you?
So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you. 1 Peter 1:13 TPT

I appreciate you sharing, Jerralea. This is a call to reflection, "What good is it to spend time in prayer and read the Word if you don't pay attention to what He says? And by paying attention, it really means obeying what He says."
ReplyDeleteInstead of just reading God's Word I want to meditate more on it. Obedience is key to our Sanctification. Pay attention is good advice! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jerralea, I feel the same way you do, sometimes I am just not observant to what the Holy Spirit is communicating to me! Your post is a good reminder to remember listening and observing are crucial to obedience!
ReplyDeleteHello Jerralea! How fun that we are neighbors at FMF this week! I guess I need to be more observant and check out your blog each week. :-) Loved your thoughts on truly being observant of God's Word and really learning from it.
ReplyDeleteJerralea , I love this lovely post. I love your insights about being observant. I can imaging God saying " I told you to pay attention." Blessings.

Jerralea, I am not observant unless I'm trying. Sometimes I can read an entire passage, check off my daily reading, and not know what I read. Thank you for the reminder. I am so glad you shared this with Grace and Truth Link-Up. Maree
