Morning Pick-Me-Up #3

Do you need a little somethin’ somethin’ to get your day started? Is your spirit feeling a tad low?

Then stop and reflect on who you are in Christ!

I was reading today one of my favorite portions of scripture:  John 15. So much is packed into that chapter. There’s enough here for several pick-me-ups! (*Grin.)

For now, I’d like to focus on verses 15-16:

No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

Have you ever felt what you do doesn’t matter all that much? Well, the above scripture tells me as a child of God, I am:

  • A friend of Jesus (Now, there’s a wondrous thought!)
  • Chosen
  • Appointed to bear fruit, AND
  • My fruit will last, and THEN
  • Whatever I ask of the Father, He will give me.

So much goodness packed in that little bundle of scripture!

What really speaks to me this morning is the thought I’m going to bear fruit. I’ve been appointed to do it (it has been purposed for me – and as Proverbs 19:21 tells us, what God purposes WILL prevail).

Not only that – my fruit will last.

As a Mom and MiMi, it seems a lot of my work must be done over and over. You can never feed you family just once and they will never be hungry again. Our laundry basket will be filled and refilled repeatedly (sometimes in one day)!

But my work is not just running the home – it’s building love and security into the heart of my family by showing I care about their needs.

Anytime you extend love to others, it will bear fruit, and it will last because the memory of that caring will always be with that person.

This should be done in the home: but love and caring needs to be shown also in the church, in the workplace – hey! Even in the checkout line at WalMart.

So, go out there and face the day doing your part to show the love of Jesus to someone.

It will be worth it!

Morning pick-me-ups are my attempt to brighten your journey with uplifting thoughts based on scripture. You can read more about who you are in Christ here, here and here.

  2. Jerralea, I so appreciated this post today. As a mom & Mimi, much of what I do is done time and time again. May we always remember - it is worth it. May all we do bear fruit for the good of others and for His glory!

  4. Lovely post and so glad i logged in before work this morning. Bearing fruit...and seeing it begin to grow in the people we are pouring into is so exciting...sometimes we won't see the end results but we ALL have a place for planting the seeds....

    have a blessed day, Jerralea.

(ps what gets me going in the morning is my steaming mug of strong dark coffee and my time in the Word.....)

  5. That's such a great passage of Scripture, Jerralea. God and His Word are always the pick-me-up I need in the morning. I have been thinking about that subject of how it's God who enables all of us to do everything we do that's good. He declares that we'll bear fruit and He'll enable us to do so. What a great promise!

  6. Thank you for this beautiful encouragement today. What a great idea to have a morning pick me up. I love the words in John 15 too. I can never get enough of knowing that God chose me and calls me to bear fruit. The words of truth are such a blessing.
