10 Things I Learned in 2015

What We Learned in 2015 - emily p freeman

What? 2015 is over? Already?

The days passed by like pearls slipping off a string. It was a beautiful momentous year in a lot of ways. Today, I'm sharing, in no particular order, some of the things I learned in 2015.

1. I got my first iPhone in 2015. I am still learning about its features. I have to say, it is so cool!

2. My bullet journal became even more of a tool for me in 2015. I'm about finishing up my second one and thinking about making my third one pretty as well as functional.

3. I learned that a prayer I prayed over 14 years ago, and had halfway forgotten, had not been forgotten by God. The answer came true in 2015 and its ramifications are mind-boggling.

4. I'm learning that my God is a God of restoration.

5. I'm continuing to learn the joys of being MiMi. During 2015 our daughter and son-in-law bought a house a half mile away, and we have the incredible joy of having the grandkids in our home 3 and 4 nights a week.

6. I've also learned that the areas I was weak when parenting are still areas I have to work on as a grandparent.

7. I learned it is not wise to drive to Florida straight through with twins. That is all I have to say about that.

8. I've learned that two of my favorite new things to do in the blogging world in 2015 was participating in the What We Learned link up each month and becoming a co-hostess at The Loft.  Love these communities!

9. I've learned how vital it is to get away and just sit quietly outside in nature to recharge my spiritual batteries. (One reason winter is NOT my favorite because it makes it hard to do that.)

10. I've learned the struggle is real - there is never a place where you have arrived, but with trusting in Him, I can continue on my Journey - joyfully!

Our world today is filled with many voices ... if I flip on the news for even a few minutes I'm bombarded with things that can steal my peace. This past year a lot of upsetting events occurred - the SCOTUS decision on marriage, the nine people murdered during a prayer meeting, the Planned Parenthood scandal, the Ferguson, MO, conflict, the Paris terrorist attack; and as if that were not enough, all the natural disasters. As I write this, flood waters are descending all around the area where I live. I've been through a flood once already, the very last thing I want is to go through it again.

Yet, because of all the things I've already experienced on this Journey, I know the Waymaker. He said He would never leave me. He's got this.

I just have to believe it.

  1. It sounds you have learned some very important things in 2015.

I've learned and am still learning that I need to let go of things that I've tried to control and just pray and let the Holy Spirit do His job. That has been a hard lesson to learn, but it really is freeing also. I don't have to have the control. As you said, "He's got this."

  3. Your list is so encouraging and inspiring. I love that you are at The Loft. Thank you for being with us. In 2015 I learned, once again, that God will never leave me. Even when my family and others who are close turn away, God never does. It was, and continues to be a sweet blessing. Happy New Year!

  4. I was an iphone girl and then I was fooled into going to Andrioid, not I'm praying my phone will get a terminal disease and die so I can go back to iphone.
Anyhoo, you have a great list of things you've learned. I think I may make one too.
    Happy New Year!

  5. i love my iphone and ipad although my iphone is not THE latest model!! lol you learned alot in 2015. thanks for sharing. my fave thing you wrote was the answer to a prayer from 14 years ago. Our God is amazing, is He not??! the main thng i learned in 2015 is to just be still and KNOW He is God. He is fathful even in the small stuff and even when we dont see immediate answers to prayer. Happy New Year!!!

  6. I love your post! Thank you for sharing. What a wonderful MiMi you must be. Hope the flood waters are receding. Also, I am just starting some bullet point journaling myself! Also, it is encouraging to hear about prayers from long ago getting answered. I can never receive enough reminders about praying, it is just so easy to doubt the difference it makes. I also liked your string of pearls analogy!!!!

  8. Hi Jerralea! I can't imagine all that time in a car with twins. I completely get your thoughts there!

I'm so happy that you had an old prayer fulfilled. It gives us all so much hope! Just because an answer is not here now, doesn't mean that it won't come to pass. Amen!! And that you are so happy with your on-line communities is so great too. Finding that balance takes time, and you've found it.

Happy New Year! Can't wait to hear what God has in store for you,
    Ceil

  10. Not sure how I missed this post when it came out a few days ago; I think I saw it but then forgot to click on it, LOL (age).

Seemed like 2015 was a growing year and a learning year. I had an aunt who was a prayer warrior; I wonder what of her prayers she prayed years ago have been being answered now, even though she's been gone for more than 15 years. It is amazing God's timing on how he answers prayers and when he answers them.
