F.F.F. - 08.07.15

It's August, y'all, and I'm counting down the days until my favorite season, fall.  Yet there are things in August that are a blessing even to this blogger who abhors beastly hot days.

Let's count highlights of my week:

1.  Last Saturday, Jim and I finally got away to take a mini road trip to our favorite lake.  We got there late in the day, just in time to watch the sunset.

Why do I like going and sitting at the lake so much?  There is just something about sitting out in God's creation, away from the to-do lists, computers and laundry piles that is so restful.  I found out this week I'm not the only lake-sitter. Myquillin, at thenester.com, is in agreement. Read her post, Why it's Worth it to Fight for Rest.

2.  Although we've alternately had days of triple digit heat indexes and torrential rains, my tubs of flowers on the porch are doing well.  I love the color that greets me every afternoon when I pull into the carport.

3.  The twins turned 14 months this week. I am so thankful they are healthy, inquisitive and adorable. Most of all, I'm thankful I get to share in their lives.

4. We've ate well this week:  grilled hot dogs, fresh corn on the cob, watermelon, grapes and peaches, and Orange Chicken. Yum.

5. Quote of the week - another quote from our beloved Bro. Chapman:

"Chasing something out of your head is not an easy task ..."

So, be careful what you put in there!

And so ends another week on the Journey.  How did your week go?  I'd love it if you'd share in the comments, or you could link up your own Friday's Fave Five post at Susanne's space, Living to Tell the Story.

  2. beautiful flowers. WOW...triple digits!! and i was complaining last week during our 3 day heat wave of 92 with 77% humidity!! haha...I could never endure that high heat for long. I do love living in the northeast.
I LOVE your photos of those babies...er....toddlers.How precious they are and oh so grown up!!

Sitting by a lake is one of my all time fave things to do on a hot summer day...or even a brisk autumn day..it's even better when I'm sitting in a kayak on the lake :)

Enjoy this weekend! We are back to no humidity and much lower temps....in the high 70s....love it. Hope you are getting some relief as well.

  9. What a thought provoking quote. I do need to keep at the task of guading what I allow into my mnd. Thanks for the reminder.

The photos of the twins are adorable. Their happy faces do indeed show that theya r loved and well cared for. It is an awesome honour and responsibility to be int he lives of our precious little ones.

Thanks for pointing out the post, "Why it's Worth it to Fight for Rest." Too many times I forget that I NEED recreation in order to truly rest. And that when I do, I am much better for it and those around me reap the benefit of me being well rested!

  10. I shouldn't complain about my 'hot' weather--no triple digits here. I hope your AC is working!
Those twins are just too cute! You are truly blessed to be near them and watch them grow.

  11. With a view like that, I can't blame you for going out to the lake as often as you can. And such gorgeous sunsets! What fun you are having with your darling twins. And an excellent quote!
