6 Things About Me

We are all unique.  It's amazing to see the different personalities that God has put together in all the individuals of the world.

Yes, I've learned I march to the beat of a different drummer.  For instance ...

Sunrise in Our Backyard

1.  I'm an early riser.  My biorhythms seem to work best in the early morning hours. Lately, I've been learning to exercise first thing in the morning when I have the most energy and the least excuses. I work well all morning long until about mid-afternoon where I begin to get sleepy.  I get my second wind about 4 p.m. and feel pretty good until about 8 p.m.  After that, don't ask for much out of me.  And if, for some reason, I stay up after 10 p.m. you will hear nothing but nonsense from me.  My brain has powered down for the night.

But while I'm an early bird, my whole family are night owls. Yes, my family does their best work at night.  The midnight hours are for writing term papers, doing laundry, making brownies, remodeling projects - you name it.  One night I woke up to go to the bathroom and discovered my husband had moved the china cabinet and was mopping and waxing where it had stood.  Yep, that's how they roll.

2.  I gauge my comfort level on my toes.  If my toes are hot, air-conditioning and bare feet is the remedy.  If my toes are cold, then I'm freezing.  I must have socks, my heaviest afghan and a cup of hot tea. If I don't get those things, my feet will cramp and then nobody is a happy camper.

3.  I'm an inveterate laugher.  I get tickled at the most random things and at the most random times.  I've had to leave many a church service, wedding or funeral because something would strike me funny and I couldn't keep from laughing.  Also, I recycle old jokes.  What I mean by that is that I can suddenly remember something amusing that happened in the past and enjoy it all over again ... all day long. While I'm admitting all these things, I might as well 'fess up and tell you that if I get really tickled, I've been known to snort.  Loudly.

4.  I'm a voracious reader.  I not only read books constantly, but anything and everything that has the written word on it.  Even the backs of cereal boxes must be read - even if I've read it before.

5. I'm addicted to McDonald's sweet tea. I try to limit myself but it is verra verra hard! (Imagine a Scottish brogue as you read the word "verra.")

6.  I'm deathly afraid of mice - more afraid of them when they are dead then when they are alive.  Because, after all, if they are dead, someone has to dispose of them.  I try to make sure it's not me!

  3. 1. I laugh at inappropriate times as well - sometimes, I just crack myself up! 2. I read cereal boxes, too, and anything else I can get my hands on. 3. I had a couple of mice incidents this winter at preschool and blogged about them, if you're interested, but I have a feeling they would be very much like reading Stephen King to you!

  5. It was neat to get to know you better, Jerralea! I always love reading 'Get to Know Me' types of posts :)

I always wondered how it would be to be a morning person. I would fall in the category of the rest of your family, hehe, I often stay up until 1 or 2 and have all the energy in the world but I'm so dead in the morning. Too bad we can't be both morningbirds and night owls at the same time.

I love what you shared about laughing!! It's nice to hear someone else has that too- sounds like we both have our share of laughing attacks in innapropriate places, hehe. The worst part is when you can't stop for minutes and every one is staring ;)

I hope you have a blessed weekend!

  6. 1. Nope. I am definitely nocturnal and always have been. In fact I'm writing this comment at 12:45am. The problem is now I have kids and I can't sleep in. But I still can't go to bed early, even if I'm really tired :(
    2. My feet are not as trustworthy as yours. If my feet are hot the rest of me surely is and I also require barefeet, ac, and ice water. BUT my feet can be freezing and somehow the rest of me may still be hot. Socks will do the trick.
    3. I think that's great! I do that sometimes, but not often. More-so I find myself remembering a funny story and wanting to reminisce about it with someone, but no one else seems to remember the story :(
    4. I love to read as well, although not cereal boxes ;) I never read books anymore, I just don't have the time. I read on the internet constantly. I love to learn and research but I always love to "waste my time" on blogs :)
    5. I don't think I've ever had McDonald's tea. My hubby loves it though. (Not only did I imagine a Scottish accent, but I immediately thought of Jock the Scottish Terrier from Lady and the Tramp.)
    6. We had mice in the house once. My husband said, "Don't freak out, but I just saw a mouse!" I said, "Freak out?! I wanna see it and name it and dress it up in little clothes like Cinderella does!" My husband bought horrible mouse traps but I made him get live catch-and-release traps. They worked, but he'd forget to check on them every day and by the time he would check them the mouse had died of suffocation inside the trap. Kinda defeated the purpose.

  7. How funny about your families natural tendencies. Here it's opposite: I'm the night owl and my hubby is definitely an early to bed and early to rise. Sometimes I find it really hard.

I hear ya on the reading thing!
