Praises even when overwhelmed

Hello, dear readers. Although my plans for weekly posting at the journey got waylaid, I'm popping in to give thanks for the blessings in my life.

It was tempting to be upset at all the things happening currently to keep me from achieving my blogging and writing goals. Instead, I am replacing those negative thoughts with thoughts of the good in my life.

(You might want to read my post at Jerralea.com to read more about this mindset.)

I've decided to look at the obstacles in my writing as blessings instead. For instance:

1. I have people who need me. People such as family, church family and friends are always more important than the next big idea or post I'm itching to write.

2. I have important work. It's important for our family that I work. The jobs I have seem vital (to me, at least) for keeping things going smoothly at my churches. I'm not saying it depends on me. Definitely not! But as a ministry assistant, there is much I can do to help my church family.

3. I have ideas. It's a good thing I've so many ideas I can barely fit them in! Ispiration is a gift from God. I might not be able to do them now, but I've food for thought and goals for the future.

4. I have resources. My work provides me an income to make ends meet. True, sometimes I must be creative; but God gives inspiration and helps me somehow find an answer. I'm thankful to have my other half who helps me with so many things.

5. I have a Big GOD! This is the biggest blessing of all. He helps make a way when there doesn't seem to be a way. In fact, sometimes He has an answer prepared before the need hits which happened to me recently. I will be writing a blog post on that story in the near future.

In conclusion, I praise my Good Shepherd who helps me to lack nothing and who makes my cup overflow. He leads me beside still waters and is always with me even in the darkest valleys.

I am blessed. I can't help but think He will bless all who come to Him. No, He doesn't promise picture-perfect rose gardens in which we spend every moment. He promises something greater - a Shepherd who will lead, guide and protect each step of our journeys. What more could we ask?

I just want you to know how highly I value those of you who visit my little piece of the cyberspace to read my words. I believe my calling is to encourage others with words of hope and blessing. Thank you especially to those who respond with comments. You make it worthwhile!

I'm sharing my five blessings at Friday's Faves. Better late than never, I always say.

  1. I am late commenting on FFF. We had a busy busy weekend.
Thinking about your statement that we are not promised a picture perfect life--our church has been doing a series of sermons on "Trusting God When..." It has been a great series of encouragement and challenge.
I love that your job encourages you and others.
    Have a great week!

  2. I love this list. I have family visiting this week so have not had as much time online (one reason I am late commenting on FFF! The adult kids are out for coffee this afternoon). I love of being thankful for all the ideas God gives us. I pray much for wisdom in everyday life to know what He wants me to spend time on amidst all the things that COULD be done. I agree our in-real-life people take precedence over the blog. Whatever He wants to to do and write, He'll provide the way for.

  3. i love the list and I so needed this, this morning. I thought i was done with the daily headaches.....I even wrote a blog post about it and God has showed me so many things through whatever this is. BUT....the headache is back daily as of Saturday and I'm becoming discouraged a bit again. At the same time though, I KNOW the Lord has me in the Palm of His Hand and He is leading me. I have no idea if this is allergies since I don't have my testing until August 30th. Seems like i've been waiting forever. i just need to keep trusting the One who is our Healer.
