Hibernate

I used to be jealous of bears.

Every winter, they could just burrow into a den and let the world turn without them. They could hibernate all winter and have a fresh start each spring.

If there was one thing 2020 taught me, my notions of how much I could accomplish if I could just spend an extended period of time indoors without leaving were blown to smithereens. Hibernation is not for me. (It just makes my tendencies to procrastinate kick in.)

I used to say I wanted to be a hermit; so at first, the idea of sheltering in place seemed pretty good to me. I work from home a lot anyway. It wouldn't change my life that much.

Or would it? Turns out I need deadlines. I need a little push to get things done. I also need a change of scenery and interactions with people to get creative juices flowing.

However, there is a kind of sheltering in place I think all believers need.

When you sit enthroned under the shadow of Shaddai,
you are hidden in the strength of God Most High.
He’s the hope that holds me and the Stronghold to shelter me,
the only God for me, and my great confidence.
He will rescue you from every hidden trap of the enemy,
and he will protect you from false accusation
and any deadly curse.
His massive arms are wrapped around you, protecting you.
You can run under his covering of majesty and hide.
His arms of faithfulness are a shield keeping you from harm.
You will never worry about an attack of demonic forces at night
nor have to fear a spirit of darkness coming against you.
Psalm 91:1-5 TPT

Don't hibernate, shelter in the Stronghold. Hibernation speaks of sleep and of inactivity. Sheltering in the presence of God speaks of being a Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus and finding spiritual food to feed upon.

A lot of people found comfort reading Psalm 91 during Coronavirus; and I know we are not done with being careful and taking precautions. I think in 2021, I will keep the beautiful words of Psalm 91 ever before me. Here's the rest of the Psalm. (Especially notice verse 15.)

Don’t fear a thing!
Whether by night or by day, demonic danger will not trouble you,
nor will the powers of evil launched against you.
Even in a time of disaster, with thousands and thousands being killed,
you will remain unscathed and unharmed.
you will be a spectator as the wicked perish in judgment,
for they will be paid back for what they have done!
When we live our lives within the shadow of God Most High,
our secret hiding place, we will always be shielded from harm.
How then could evil prevail against us or disease infect us?
God sends angels with special orders to protect you wherever you go,
defending you from all harm.
If you walk into a trap, they’ll be there for you
and keep you from stumbling.
You’ll even walk unharmed among the fiercest powers of darkness,
trampling every one of them beneath your feet!
For here is what the Lord has spoken to me:
“Because you have delighted in me as my great lover,
I will greatly protect you.
I will set you in a high place, safe and secure before my face.
I will answer your cry for help every time you pray,
and you will find and feel my presence
even in your time of pressure and trouble.
I will be your glorious hero and give you a feast.
You will be satisfied with a full life and with all that I do for you.
For you will enjoy the fullness of my salvation!”
Psalm 91:6-16

Welcome to Day 27 of the #Write28Days challenge. During the month of February, I'll be examining what my world looks like after 2020. I feel we are ever closer to the Lord's return. What would it look like if I lived everyday with that thought in mind?

This could be my last February 27th before He comes.

The truth is, it IS the last February 27th for some, because He comes back every day for somebody.

It could be me. It could be you. It could be every believer.

My prayer is to leave an impact. What about you?

So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you. 1 Peter 1:13 TPT

  1. YES sheltering under His wing. My life didn't change AT ALL...other than 3 months of remote teaching and wearing a mask in public/during the work day in the classroom. Hubby is still working from home and he's an extrovert so it's been hard on him although he does have introvert tendancies. We've been back to in person church (and today we opted to stay in and watch online due to sleeping in!!) but Psalm 91 has been huge with so many of my friends and family during 2020. I re-read it many times to get that perspective and remind my self that nothing surprised God....He has us under His wing and we do not have to hibernate!!

    Great post Jerralea!
