Return and Start Over

Today’s word prompt at Five Minute Friday is:

RETURN

When we start out on our journey Home, we only think of going forward. It becomes a challenging journey, keeping on the path, ignoring rabbit tracks and staying out of pits. Our focus is Home and most times, we don’t even look back.

After all, the apostle Paul tells us to forget the things behind and press on.

However, there is a time when going forward is not the thing to do. Perhaps with all the struggle of continuing, we have gotten our eyes off the Prize.

We’ve gotten bogged down with the minutiae of life. Mortgage payments, keeping tires on the car, stocking the pantry, doctor bills, fielding calls from creditors and school principals informing us our little darlings have acted … well, not so darling. Oh, we could go on and on, but you already know. Because. Life. Happens.

All these things and more have drawn us away from our first love. We’ve forgotten why we even started on this path!

Is it possible to be so zealous for Christianity that we have forgotten our love for Christ?

It’s time to return and start over.

“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches. Revelation 2:4-5 NLT

  1. I agree, it's easy to lose our focus in the midst of life's challenges. So important to return and remind ourselves of why. Visiting from FMF #33.

  4. Return ... what a great prompt. There are so many ways God calls us to return. Probably because as the old hymn says, we're "prone to wander." Blessings!
