Doing the Impossible

I'm on a pastor search committee, and it has been a discouraging process. Just when you think you've located the right person, it somehow falls apart.

Speaking in faith to myself, I said, "God's got this. It is not impossible for Him. He is all powerful and all knowing. He knows where the right person is, and is right now, at THIS VERY MOMENT preparing to send that person our way."

Then the thought came to me - I'm sure it was from the Holy Spirit - telling me finding a pastor for my church is no more impossible for God then:

  • speaking the worlds into existence
  • making the walls of Jericho fall
  • rolling back the waters of the Jordan
  • delivering Daniel from the lions' den
  • walking in the fiery furnace with the three Hebrew children
  • raining fire on Elijah's water-soaked sacrifice on Mt. Carmel
  • felling a giant with David's one smooth stone
  • turning water into wine
  • feeding 5,000 from 5 loaves of bread and two fish
  • speaking to a storm and having it immediately cease its storming
  • raising a dead man

Even more amazing than all those miracles is the daily miracle of God taking a sin-saturated repentant child and growing him into becoming a Christ-filled saint who reminds people of Jesus.

All I have to do is wait for the answer to my prayer - it's on the way!

Is there something you are believing God for the answer? Take heart - all things are possible with God.

Today, I'm linking up at Soul Survival and Moments of Hope, because believing He can do the impossible increases hope!

  1. So true nothing is impossible for God. The "secret" is learning to wait for his timing instead of impatiently wanting it on our timing. The church we went to in Prescott before we moved here to Phoenix was in a search for a pastor shortly after we started attending the church. They thought they had a candidate within a few months after the senior pastor left, but it all fell apart so to speak and they were back to square one. They decided to just wait and pray and see where God led them next. They did hire a teaching pastor in the meantime so sermons were covered. Took them about 18 months in all, but they did get their candidate and it was a "perfect" fit; just like it should be waiting on God to provide. Yours too when the time is right :)

  2. Just finished reading a book called Still Waiting . . .
Sometimes the waiting is the greatest suffering of all.
And we've been in your shoes recently. So grateful for our new pastor -- and for the end of the search. What a blessing. I'll be praying for you guys. Keep us posted! We'll be waiting for the good news!

  3. Our church is in the pastor search mode, too. It's reassuring to know that finding a new pastor is in God's will. Blessings as you search and wait.
