Today is my final post in the series, "You Might Be A Christian ... from A-Z"
Fittingly, the final letter, "Z" represents a place near and dear to the heart of the Christian.
You might be a Christian, if you ... want to dwell in Zion.
Zion is the place the Lord dwells. He says in His holy scriptures:
For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:
“This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
(Psalm 132:13 ESV)
The word Zion means a permanent capital, a mountain of Jerusalem (according to Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries).
The Lord created everything there is, and He has chosen Zion for His dwelling place.
He can do what He wants.
Doesn't He dwell in Heaven? Yes, He is not bound by time or space as we are bound. He is omnipresent which means He is everywhere.
But Zion is special to Him. It's special to us Christians as well (and the country surrounding it). Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, the word says.
One day, during the millenium (the thousand year reign of Christ), when Christ will actually rule here on earth, Jerusalem will be the new Jerusalem, holy and dedicated to the Lord.
I want to go there. Do you?
~~~
I'm so glad you are here! Follow me each day as I attempt to define what a Christian is ... and isn't.
I'm always interested in your thoughts. Let me know if there is a word Christians use that you don't understand. I'd be interested to write about it.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered what Zion meant. My husband worked in Utah a few years back and the kids and I spent lots of time driving back and forth between Northern California and Utah. I'd see signs for Zion National Park.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing the A to Z Challenge!
ReplyDeleteSuccess!
You did it!
Good to visit your blog. I came to know about Zion for the first time. I feel there is God who is not visible as a very great energy or power. Also all people and animals and even trees who/which are visible to us are also God. When we pray we pray to invisible God as well as Visible manifestations of God. Together they help each of us in our life as well as in after life. Congratulations for Successful A to Z 2016 Blog Writing.
