Justified

You might be a Christian, if you ... have been justified.

Here are precious promises we Christians cling to:

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1 NKJV)

and,

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. (2 Corinthians 2:16)

So, you see, it's not be anything we do, it's having faith in what Christ has done for us.

My favorite definition of justified is this:  It's just-as-if-I'd never sinned.

When God looks at the Christian, He sees us through the lens of what Christ has done. Christ lives in us. He is righteous and holy, and through Him we are, too.

It's not by anything we can do. Our righteousness on our best day is nothing more than a pile of dirty rags. If we could earn our way to heaven, boy, you'd better believe we would do it, and brag about it, too.

Instead, like a helpless child, we have to depend on what Jesus has done for us.

It is enough.

I'm so glad you are here! Follow me each day as I attempt to define what a Christian is ... and isn't.

I'm always interested in your thoughts. Let me know if there is a word Christians use that you don't understand. I'd be interested to write about it.

  1. That is so true; our merits get us nowhere; Jesus' sacrifice gets us everywhere.

  2. Wow, beautifully written. Justified is something I need to focus on more and the way you explained the true meaning of it hit home for me.
And to say it's "just as if I've never sinned" is so meaningful.

Thank you for this post, Jerralea!

Hope you have a wonderful day!!
