X is for X Marks the Spot ...

In my Feasting Body and Soul from A-Z series, we've talked a lot about food and recipes. But an important component of the family table is, well... the table.  You need to have a designated spot to host family dinners.

Keep in mind it doesn't have to be fancy. A clean un-cluttered surface to serve your creations made with love will do. If you have a candle burning for a little extra ambiance, even better.

Recently, my sister and I had a discussion about paper plates.  I rarely use them, but I do see the convenience of them when you have a big crowd or very little time left for clean-up. But, as a rule, I love using my dishes. (I'm a dish collector.) Why save the "good" dishes? Who is more important than your family?

Use your pretty dishes, table linens and candles now. It just adds the value of good memories to your tableware.

If you are just starting out serving family dinners, I recommend a set of white Corelle dishes. You can change the look with different place mats, glassware and candles. Corelle will last you a lifetime. I have one set that is 39 years old and still looks beautiful.

So, X marks the spot where the family love is dished up every night.

X also marks another spot.  Jesus gave His life for all on a spot called Golgotha.

"And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha." John 19:17 NKJV

Why did He do it?

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 NKJV

and

"... for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10 NKJV

If you are lost and want to be found, just call out to God right here, right now. He will always hear a sincere heart that wants to change. And then you can say "X marks the spot where I believed."

X is for X Marks the Spot is another post from my series, Feasting Body and Soul from A-Z.  I believe family dinner is important and I also believe food for the soul is just as important. Join me each day as I explore feeding both.

  1. I love serving up family dinners...and it is important to me that the table look nice. I enjoyed your picture of your family table. Great tip on starting out with white Corelle!

X marks the spot...where Jesus saved me...at an altar in a church that we left behind when we moved to our current location. But that spot will always hold special meaning for me.

  2. I love dinners with real plates. I wouldn't mind washing...to keep from having paper plates. I wish I had tons of dishes to use...but I love the ones I do have. I am looking for a new set of everyday. The ones I have are boring.

  3. Definitely big on dishes here vs. paper. The crowd has to be over 25 people before I consider paper. I have to have some excuse for buying all those different plates from the thrift stores over the years!

  4. We still have Corelle white plates :) I like paper plates for quick clean up. So thankful Jesus took my place on that cross! Two more letters to go!
