I was 14 when I became a believer. Shortly after that, I attended a youth camp, Lake Yale Baptist Conference Center in Lake Yale, Florida. It's still there even after all these many years.

Being there was a life-changing experience for me. I loved worshiping with others my age. One of the activities that remains in my memory so vividly is our singing around the campfire. Sure, we sang old classics like Kumbaya, but the song that stuck with me more than any other was "Fill my Cup, Lord."
Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;
Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more--
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!
(Lyrics - Wanda Jackson)
I can still hear that song in my memory today. I totally still want that same thing I wanted all those years ago - to be filled with Him and His power and not my own ambitions, will and desires.
When I feel drained by all the world has thrown my way, I need to fill up with Him.
This post was written in response to the one word prompt "fill" found at 5 Minute Friday now hosted by Kate at the blog "heading home." This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation.
Just write.
Also, the most important rule is that you visit the blog of the person who linked up before you and leave some encouragement. That’s the most fun of all, and the heart of this community.
Just dropping by from FMF. Thank you for this reminder. I do definitely need to ask the Lord to "Fill Me Up". Fill me to overflowing with Your love and strength Lord.

As humans we need to be filled daily. It's hard to get through one day without the filling. I remember this one too. May need to use it again at church soon! We do mostly contemporary with an occasional hymn.
ReplyDeleteI remember that song, "Fill Me Up". I was a new Christian when I learned that too. That is my prayer too. Lake Yale is a pretty area. Have a blessed day.
ReplyDeleteStopping over from the Five Minute Friday today. Crying out, "Fill my cup, Lord!"
ReplyDeleteHi Jerralea! I think every commenter here agrees with you. What a joy it is to feel filled! And I think I'll want that grace every day of my life, until I see him with my own eyes someday.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflection on 'fill'. And such a lovely memory from your camp days.
