What are you afraid of?

Everyone has fears, some rational, some irrational. Here are some of mine:

1. Mice: It's crazy, but not only am I afraid of them when they are alive, but I'm even more afraid of them when they are dead.  After all, someone has to dispose of their nasty little corpses.

2. Heights.  Anything taller than a step-ladder makes me dizzy.

3. Something happening to my children:  I'm a mom.  It doesn't matter that my kids are grown.  I still have this fear.

4. Car wrecks:  I've already been in one.  You can read about it here. Hey, I made it out alive once, I might not the second time.

5. Illness: I'm not sure if I'm more afraid of getting ill or trying to pay the deductible for my insurance ...

6. Disappointing my Lord and Savior. The word is out that I'm a Christian.  I want to be sure to not do anything that would reflect badly on Him.  I know as long as I abide in Him and stay in the Word, I should be fine.*

I also remember that fear does not come from God; instead, He gives us power, love and sound judgement.*

Using my sound judgement, I will stay away from mice, heights and dangerous drivers, and trust Him with all the rest of my fears!

Q4U:  What is YOUR biggest fear?

  1. Great list! I think most of us could relate to these. I think I'm more afraid of someone I love getting seriously ill than myself.

  2. Oh yes, this looks very similar to what mine would look like. {{sigh}} but I try not to think about it. These things can overwhelm you if you do. I also pray alot about 3 - 6 :)

  3. Uh oh, proceed with caution if you read my entry today.

I can relate to all of yours, except the car accident one; I've never been in one before.

Your advice to yourself is quite wise!

  4. my GREATEST fear is that my daughters would be sexually exploited or abused. But they are gifts from God and He holds them in the palm of His Hand so.....alhtough I know this is a real concern, I lift them up to God each and every day and I will when they have fled the nest as well :)

  5. I could have written this post myself; your lists of afraid of's is very similar to my list of afraid of's. You are right, we do worry and are afraid of something happening to our children, no matter what age. I think that is my biggest worry. I am thankful that although there are times (lots) that I think I disappoint Jesus, I know he always forgives me and loves me; makes me want to try hard not to disappoint him again (but I know I will since I'm human)

  6. Your fears pretty much echo mine. I have to guard my mind constantly; otherwise I let fear take over. Great post!

  7. We had pet mice for a bit and I was always surprised at how many people were absolutely terrified by them. They're so cute!!
