Now What?

You've counted the cost and decided to take the narrow path.  You are a believer, a child of God who has turned from her old way of life and now want to live for Him.

What is the first thing you do?

Get in the Word.

The Word, God's love letter to you, is the most awesome book ever written.  It so amazing; you can read a passage and get something out of it, and the very next time you read that same passage, you see things you didn't see the first time.  It's the Living Word, able to speak into your life at whatever stage of life you might be in at the time.  What other book can do that?

I've always been a voracious reader, consuming books so fast that I often had to reread my favorites just to have reading material.  Although I've worn the covers off my favorite books, nothing gives me new inspiration like the Bible.

And why wouldn't it?  Jesus is called the Living Word.  The bible tells us that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.  The Author can understand anything that comes our way because He has lived and experienced all the temptations that we experience.

If you want to know about God's characteristics, His nature - it's in His Word.

Want to know promises you can stand on?  It's in there.

Do you want to know what He expects of you?  It's in there.

The basic thing every believer must do is to become a student of the Word.  When you know the Truth intimately, you can discern between the right, true thing to do and the false.

If you don't know where to start, begin in the book of John.  It's a great way to learn the gospel (good news) and then go on to Romans and Acts to learn about the early church.

The psalms are wonderful for comfort; Proverbs are chock-full of wisdom.

If you want to know how it all began, go to Genesis.

We are so blessed to live in this day and age where we can find a version of the Scriptures written in an easy-to-understand vernacular.  They're all available on www.biblegateway.com so there is no excuse for not reading. My favorite translations are the New American Standard Version, the English Standard Version, and the Holman Christian Standard Bible.  I like to compare them to the standard, the King James Version

You need to be in the Word!
