Camping is Not For Me

I have not been camping in 21 years.

We thought it might be fun to go camping way back when we were a young family with only one child.

Not having a tent or anything, we decided to camp out of the back of my husband's pick up.  It had a camper shell on it. (I guess that is what they are called.) We had an air bed.  Why not blow the air bed up and put it in the bed of the truck?
Now If I Had A Sweet Little Camper Like This...

We could go to Ferne Clyffe and camp there because there was a shower house and bathrooms.  We could pack up our little table top grill and take our cooler and we would be all set.

Oh it was wonderful fun for my hubby to pump that air bed up with a bicycle pump. (When we used it at home, we used the vacuum to fill it with air.)

Did I mention I was pregnant?

Let's see, I carried that child for about 10 months.  Our camping adventure was in the spring of that year ...  I was probably almost 5 months along.

In all our considerations, we, or should I say, I, did not think about how hard it was going to be for a pregnant woman to climb out of an airbed and over the tail gate of the truck in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

Of course, I had to do that more than once.

I was so worn out when I got back home ... so ...

I have not been camping in 21 years.

  1. I need to jump in on one of Mama Kat's writing prompts someday. This is great -- I can't imagine how you managed over that tailgate! Climbing out of an air mattress is tough under the best of conditions!

  3. Our family vacation motto is, "I love NOT camping!" It just seems like a whole lot of work to ultimately end up sleeping on the ground. ;) I totally understand where you are coming from!

  4. Camping is not for me either. Seems foolish to go roughing it when I have a perfectly comfortable bed at home. You deserve a medal for going when you were pregnant!

  5. ha! Once it enough, isn't it? I've been once too...as a teenager with my family. Hated it. Have not done it since!
