Thankful for the Gift of 5 Senses

Can you imagine what it would be like if you didn't have your five senses? To lose even one would be a great tragedy.

Sight:  Oh, it would be so hard for me to not have my sight!  Besides needing sight to be able to get around, I would miss so very much the ability to read - reading is my life!  I also love to see color and nature and beauty.  Yes, it is such a blessing to see.

Smell:  Fragrance is very important to me.  I love things to smell good, fresh and clean.  Of course, I want to smell good, but it's also very important to me that my home smell good as well.  Then there are other delightful smells - the smell of food cooking, spicy smells such as cinnamon, the smell of the earth after a rain shower, fresh cut grass - new car smell is a great fragrance, too! Bad smells serve a purpose, also. They let us know when something has went bad, or in the case of a skunk, warns us to keep away.

Sound: What if we could not hear the sound of our loved ones voices, or music, laughter or our babies crying?  Definitely sound is a blessing.

Touch: It would be awful to not be able to feel hugs, kisses and embraces.  The feel of certain materials against your skin is a wonderful thing.  Also, if you could not determine when something felt hot or sharp, you could get injured.  Holding a soft snuggly baby would not be nearly as enjoyable without the sensation of touch.

Taste: Being able to enjoy your food is a great blessing.  I remember when my grandmother had throat cancer and had to be fed from a feeding tube, she used to dream about how great a Big Mac from McDonalds tasted. As soon as she could eat again, she got one, but her tastebuds had died.  It meant nothing to her.

God gave us these senses to make life more safe and enjoyable.  What a blessing they are, and we should be thankful everyday for them.

Now, excuse me, while I put on my favorite piano music, and read my bible while sipping some hot tea, all wrapped up in my soft cheetah throw.  Oh, and I'll light my cinnamon candle while I'm at it!

  1. Thank you for this refreshing post. I lost my ability to walk due to a vehicular accident and I wouldn't trade any of my senses just to be able to walk again.

I would love to get to know you more through your future posts. Would you like us to follow each other? God bless :)
