A good man's steps, the Bible says, are ordered of the Lord. I totally agree. I can look back and see how God orchestrated certain things to happen in my life.
I was young when I got married, only 20, and at that time in my life, I didn't know of anything I wanted to do other than be a homemaker and mother. Why go to college when you don't know what it is that you would like to study? I felt like it would be a waste of money.
Later on, I regretted that sort of thinking. I was a mother with three young daughters and my husband became ill. In fact, his illness had progressed to the point that I knew I needed to go back to work to supplement the family income. Little did I know that in time, I would end up being the breadwinner. If only I had a college degree! Not having a career definitely hampered my job search ...
One day, after a discouraging day of job hunting, my 10 year old asked me, "Mom, if you could have any job you wanted, what would it be." I stopped and thought, and then said with growing excitement, "I would like to be a church secretary." How perfect! After all, I'd already done just about every volunteer job in the church, why not actually work there!
Have you ever heard the saying, "from my lips to God's ears" before? It was like God was waiting for me to SAY what I wanted. The very next day, a girl called me and said, "Jerri, I was wondering if you might like a job being a church secretary. Our church needs one, and today during my prayer time, God told me to call you about it." How amazing! This girl lived in a different city. She hadn't seen me in a long time. She didn't know I was looking for a job. I definitely view this as a "God-incidence."

Long story short, I got the job. Fifteen years later, I am still a church secretary. It took another God-incidence to keep me in the profession. I'll save that story for another post.
