Friday's Fave Five #102

I say this every week, but seriously?  It's Friday again? The week flew by!

1. God's Protection:  I give thanks for this constantly. (Hey, I have three daughters who are on the road all the time!) This past Sunday night, I was driving home on a road that is appropriately enough named Grapevine.  It was dusky dark, when all of a sudden I came up on a deer  that was standing by the side of the road. He was standing so close, in fact, that his front hooves were on the white line on the shoulder. He was big and sported a magnificent rack.  I didn't have time to count the points on his antlers as I whizzed by, but he was by far the biggest and oldest buck I'd ever seen.  Thank God he didn't step further into the road or I might not be here to tell about it.

2.  Sense of Accomplishment:  This week, I had many tasks that needed to be completed, both on the job and for my roles as board member, worship leader, and Sunday School teacher.  God enabled me to get them all done.  Usually I have an anxious feeling when so much needs to be done, but this week I had a peace and just went from one thing to another.

3. El-Shaddai:  One of the things I was doing this week was preparing a bible study for midweek service at my church.  (All the board members are taking turns leading the bible study.  This week was my turn.) My topic was the Names of God.  What a blessing to study the names of God and the characteristic that each name means!  This is going to be a two part (or maybe three part) study because this topic is so rich and too much to cover in one sitting.  Anyway, one of my favorite names is El-Shaddai, the All Sufficient One.  He is sufficient for every need we might have.  I've heard it described this way:  "He is the God of More Than Enough."  I love it!  He is more than enough for whatever you might be facing!

4.  Cooler weather:  I give the Lord praise that it has cooled down a little in my part of the country.  Instead of 98° or 100°, it has been in the low 90s and the humidity is better.  I'm looking forward to low 80s but I'll rejoice in 90° temps anyhow.

5.  New washer:  I'm excited because this week my new High Efficiency front loader washer was installed.  My old washer was having an issue that it didn't want to spin all the rinse water out, so I'm in heaven with a washer that really works!  Bonus:  It seems like it gets my white clothes much whiter!

I also have to share the Quote of the Week with you:  "If you are facing a situation today that seems hopeless, one for which you have no answers, pray Jehoshaphat's prayer: "Lord, I don't know what to do, but my eyes are on You." Stay focused on Him until the answer comes."  … David Jeremiah

How about your week?  Would you like to share the highlights of the past seven days?  Link up at Susanne's Living to Tell the Story.  We'd all love for you to share!

  1. I love your faves! No. 3 must be so much fun. It is comforting that He is indeed more than enough for whatever we are facing. Thanks for mentioning that. I appreciate being reminded. Happy Friday.

  2. You could send a couple degrees of your heat up here! We've had a very mild August so far....no heat waves.

I hear ya on the protection of God! I came close to hitting a deer the other day - IN TOWN! I usually watch pretty carefully out of town, but just wasn't ready for her to step out in front of me in the city.

Good quote! Thanks for sharing it.

Hope you have a great weekend and another productive week. ttyl

  3. I could say it every week, too – it’s already Friday? Time does fly. So glad you didn’t collide with the deer. Yes, thanking God with you! Congrats on getting your tasks done this week. Wish I could say the same here. I love studying the names of God. El-Shaddai is such an important one! Thanks for this encouraging list. I love the quote; I needed to hear that today.

  4. Great faves. We passed so many deer signs and I was really hoping we wouldn't be surprised by one. I'm glad that grand one didn't cause you any harm! Yippee for a new washer. I love it when an appliance works right! Our God is amazing and all sufficient...
    Have a great weekend!!

  6. Funny! I sent that prayer - VERY similar to it anyway - in a text message to my son this morning. He is really caught between a rock and a hard place and sees NO way out. I can't think of a way out either - but I know God has the situation under control. My son is not a Christian - so I always pray, too, that this will bring him closer to God. (you may pray too if you'd like!)

I love the name El-Shaddai too! He IS all sufficient! I am also fond of Abba... my Papa. Sounds like that is going to be a GREAT study - I wish I was in on it! I have not done a study on His names. One day I'll get to that!

  8. I loved your #3 Fave, too. A few years ago, I did the Names of God study by Kay Arthur. What a wonderful and challenging study!

I'm happy for you that the temperatures have cooled. I'm just not a hot weather person so I can empathize with you.

Wow! I'm so glad you were safe on the road!

  9. I am with you with the heat. I am heading for a Girl's overnight tomorrow and am excited because it will only me in the mid to upper 80's. Talk about a cooling trend.

The Protection of God! Way to start of your Fav Fives this week.

    Love Ya

  10. I'm blessed and encouraged by your list.
I love the name "El Shaddai" so beautiful and yes He is more than enough. Our bible studies start next week and I'm leaning towards the study that will go through God's names.
    Be blessed.

  11. What a great list! I especially appreciate your Quote of the Week. I was just reading about Jehoshaphat, and I'm working on keeping that focus. Thanks for the reminder.

  12. You will be so enriched studying the names of God! He truly is the All Sufficient One! I haven't done this study in awhile. I think I'll pull it out and redo it.

It always does feel good when we've accomplished something that needed to be done, doesn't it?
