Wow! This week has whizzed by ...
1. On Sunday, we celebrated Independence Day, which is always one of my favorite holidays. At my church, we had a church dinner followed by a special program honoring our country. One thought was expressed that stuck in my mind. 56 men signed the Declaration of Indepence. 56 men, in essence, changed the world, because today's world would not look the same without America.
Of course, what is the 4th of July without fireworks?
2. Since the 4th fell on a Sunday, I didn't have to go to work on Monday. A day off is always a favorite! For Father's Day, my husband received a GPS, so we decided to try it out. We set the GPS for a little known park, Mermet Conservation Area, and got out on the road. It was fun to hear the "man" (we haven't named him yet) tell us "in 600 yards, turn right." Amazingly enough, he was right every time. We ended up at our destination, which I shall christen,
"Lilypad Lake"
Here's my attempt at a closeup of a lilypad.
Lilypads as far as you can see. The air was fragrant!
The sky was gorgeous and there was a light breeze.
It was so beautiful and we had the park to ourselves!
Not one other soul was there. We sat on the picnic table under some trees and just had a good time of uninterrupted conversation!
3. Thursday was my husband's birthday. I am so thankful to have him for another year! He is such a blessing to me.
4. Quote of the week: "When God allows us to undergo stress in our life, it is not to kill us, but to help us see our own human weaknesses--and turn to Him." Something to think about ...
5. We had our first watermelon of the season. It was sweet AND seedless. Yum!

We had a church dinner on the 4th, too. Fun, but hot! Glad your GPS man was accurate. Ours hasn’t always been. Ha. Love your lilypad pictures. Happy birthday to your hubby. The quote is meant for me—thank you!
ReplyDeleteHow fun that your church celebrated the 4th that way. I really enjoy the 4th of July, too. The water lilies are great! Happy belated birthday to your guy!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the quote you shared and will have to copy that in my book! So true!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun week of celebrations!
Beautiful and 'fragrant' photos!
We love watermelon here!
Thanks for the peek,
Joanne
Your list was fun to read, as always...
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of your "private park" were beautiful...
Love that quote...and happy belated birthday to your DH....
I love that quote. Do you know who originally said it? I have a "Week in Words" meme on Mondays is you'd like to share it with others then.
ReplyDeleteYou've had quote a fun week! My hubby has Monday off, too -- it was nice.
That's a pretty lilypad. Are those leaves of taro around it? Church dinners are just great. Your photos speak of solitude and beauty. Happy birthday to your hubby.
ReplyDeleteThanks for finding me! I love your lily pad photos... it brought to mind the incredible fragrance!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
~H
You're making me hungry for watermelon!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a lovely outing with your hubby - a belated Happy B-day to him!
Happy weekend too!
I love that quote!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! I'm not sure I have ever seen a lily pad up close before. I want to now!
ReplyDeleteIt is rather amazing when you list those 56 men as world-changers. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow...that Lilypad lake is gorgeous. Great photos, too. Glad you got to have such a relaxing day off.
ReplyDeleteMy GPS is named Jack. Most of the time, he is pretty smart and has gotten me around construction, missed exits, and through huge cities like Dallas/FW. Once in awhile, though....I'm smarter than him! He's so much better than a map, though!
happy birthday to Jim!
To me my GPS is a blessing ! I have no sense of orientation and always missed my way ! Now I am not afraid anymore to get lost, lol !
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday to your hubby. Hope he had a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great quote and definitely one to think about.
Isn't seedless fruit the greatest invention??? Well... God probably doesn't think so! HIS design was perfect after all... lol! But WE do enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI love the 4th too -- but I had to work on Monday! Our VBS started on the 5th and I was so busy last week I am JUST NOW arriving here!!! :) But ohhhhhh it was sO great! I had a blast! The first 3 days are posted on my blog... with 2 more to come!
That quote is just wonderful - and truly something to nosh on!
