Friday's Fave Five - August 21, 2009

Once again, it is Friday, and time to participate in Friday's Fave Five. FFF is a time when one looks back and reflects on the past week and chooses 5 highlights.

This week has been largely uneventful, yet there are always favorite things if I just look for them.

1. Fuss-free mornings: When the kids were little, and school was in session, sometimes the mornings could be hectic. I had one child that was always difficult to get out of bed, and another child that always seemed to lose one shoe and would tell me about it just as the bus was coming. I don't even want to discuss their taking turns in the bathroom. (We only have one bathroom for a household of five.) Now that the girls are in high school, mornings run much smoother. I don't even have to get them up anymore. They drive themselves to school, and they take responsibility for getting their own outfits together. They even know when it's their turn for the bathroom and, most of the time, don't stay in there past their alloted time. Ahhh ... it's great! Why this week, I even got to work early twice!

2. Cooler weather: Temps in my area have dropped from upper 90s to low 80s. Tomorrow, it's supposed to be 75 degrees! I lurve me some cool weather. I do not like to sweat ... which is why sometimes I dream of living where Susanne, Marg and Karyn live -- or Kathie at PEI!

3. Favorite quote: "Your future has no room for the mistakes of your past." Joyce Meyer. That makes me think of the Apostle Paul saying "I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead." Phil. 3:13 NLT I need to be reminded from time to time to forget all my past mistakes. What's important now is where I'm headed!

4. Pretty dishes: One evening this week, I had salad for dinner. I used all the cut glass dishes that I have been collecting to serve the salad. (I always serve my salad ingredients in separate bowls so that everyone can put what they like in their salads. It also makes leftovers last longer when stored separately.) I wish I would have thought to take a picture because it looked so pretty. I believe in serving food in a nice presentation. I think it makes for more enjoyment at the table.

5. Early to bed: Several nights this week, I have went to bed early. I read a few chapters in my book and then on to dreamland! What can I say? I love to sleep!

What about you? How did your week go? Why not link up at Susanne's Living to Tell the Story and share?

  1. I love number 3. And did you know that I had never heard if you store the ingredients separately they would stay fresher longer? I know--common sense, but somehow I never thought of it.

  2. Love that quote. Thanks for that. I think most of us could do well to remember that.

I really like your salad idea of serving each ingrediant in a different bowl. How clever of you and I'll bet it looks lovely all in in their own bowls, too.

It's going to be a cooker here for us today, which compared to your hot days doesn't compare but it's going to be 32*C or 89*F. Now that is frying for us.

  3. The fact that those three girls can get themselves off to school on their own (using one bathroom) means that their mama taught them well!

Love #2--I hate hot humid weather too.

  4. I think that's why I enjoyed a more relaxed week this week, because they were fuss free mornings. In just one more week school begins and my children aren't quite past the age of "fuss" yet. :-)

We had cooler weather a few weeks ago and it was so refreshing. Glad you are getting some!

Thanks for the quote and the Scripture. And from one who loves sleep to another... sweet dreams!

  5. Sounds like a great week Jerri! I love peace in the house. I'm glad your girls are at the age to afford you that pleasure! Love that verse, one of my favorites. I really enjoy a pretty presentation, too! Oh and I hate to sweat! Enjoy your nice cooler weekend...

  6. I loved when my kids got old enough to pretty much take care of getting themselves ready in the morning. Much easier on everyone.

I can't wait til the temperatures drop here -- probably not for a couple of weeks yet, at least.

I need to get to bed earlier now that school has started. I tend to stay up later and later during the summer.

    Have a great weekend!

  7. Fuss-free mornings are great, aren’t they? All this talk of cooler weather is getting me excited about fall football. Can’t wait. Yes, we all need those reminders to let go of the past and move forward in Christ. Thanks for sharing.

  8. Boy! Ya had me with those fuss-free mornings right up until you had to go to WORK! Yuk! LOL! I was hoping you were sitting with a cup of coffee and a blog (or your Bible), enjoying your morning! I do relate though - life got sO much more relaxed once all of my children were providing their own transportation!

I love that quote... Joyce Meyer is just wonderful!

  10. My days are always much too short as it is, so sometimes I feel sleep is overrated. Until I fall asleep in the passenger seat of the car like I did this afternoon! LOl! 75 degrees is not that bad is it? I live in Belgium, we're very happy with such temperatures. Much more and life gets reeeeeeaaaaal heavy here!Oh and I can totally relate to the idea that food has to look good. I think so too. Serving all the ingredients separately in cute dishes is such a great idea! I'll try that too one of these days. You had a great week. I SO enjoyed reading about it! Have another great one!!

  14. Your child who's difficult to get out of bed sounded like me when I was in the grades :) I like the time management and teamwork that having only one bathroom created for the family.

I love the quote - fits me well

As a kid I was difficult to feed and one of the main reasons I learned to eat vegetables was because they were nicely presented.

  18. Oh I look forward to fuss-free mornings. I'm still trying to find the best fit for us.
I also love your quote and how lucky for you to get to bed early. I love sleep too but I'm also a night owl.
What a great week for you.
