Starting out the new year right ...

... with thankfulness!

I love visiting the Friday's Fave Five community because they are such a great group of writers who focus on searching for at least 5 highlights of their week each and every Friday. Gratitude is a very important spiritual "muscle" that needs to be exercised frequently. In 2020, I am pledging to show up more often to join them.

I am very blessed, but sometimes it is easy to lose sight of that fact when problems loom. It is way better to focus on how God has blessed me than to mull constantly over problems.

My first blessing on my mind and heart during this season is my family. I'm so thankful all my children and grandchildren live close by and can participate in family get-together's. I'm deeply grateful.

Secondly, I'm thankful I have a job that is fulfilling and rewarding. Oh sure, when the alarm goes off and I have to leave my cocoon of nice warm blankets to get up and go, I'm wishing I didn't work outside the home. But once I get going, I can't think of a place I'd rather work.

I'm also thankful for the new year. Ever a lover of new beginnings, the start of a year - and a new decade - makes me all giddy. Surely, this year will see more goals reached; and if not, the anticipation is a gift in itself.

Come to think of it, having goals is a blessing, too. I don't want to be a person just existing and taking up space. I am glad there is something in me propelling me to want to do and accomplish and be. It's sad to meet a person who has nothing to look forward to in her life!

My best blessing, though, is that I know Jesus and I'm on my journey Home. He is my Guide, and I'm closely followed by goodness and mercy. (See Psalm 23:6

How about YOU? Can you find 5 blessings on your mind and heart during the start of this new exciting decade? I'd love to hear your blessings if you'd care to share. You can either link up a post of your own at Susanne's space (click here), or leave a comment.

  1. I love your list. Back to the basics! In many ways even better than a list of specifics. Blessings to you in 2020 - I especially appreciated your last item on your list. --Ann

  6. Huh. I don't think I had heard of the "Friday's Fave Five" community before. Or maybe it's just that today I'm not so scattered that it's sinking in? Either way, I love the concept, and I love your list. Thanks for sharing your blessings with us.

  8. I love all these faves. We always lived far away from family, and I count it such a blessing that all but one of my kids lives close by -- and he comes three times a year, much more often than we could when we were younger and had young kids.

I love new beginnings and goals, too. I haven't had much time to think about it yet--when everyone else goes back to work tomorrow, I'm looking forward to some quiet, thoughtful time.

Amen especially to #5. Nothing else would have any meaning without Jesus as our Savior and Guide.

  11. I agree...there is so much to be grateful for - each morning, each season, each day and each new year! But, above all, my salvation and having the Savior through each day and season is the greatest blessing of all!!

  14. Hi Jerralea, so nice to see your name on Linky once again! Happy New Year to you! Loved your list. Always grateful for family. I wished a couple of my kids lived closer but I'm very thankful when we do have opportunities to be together such as Christmas! I also am thankful for this life with Jesus and His mercies and grace.
