"I have decided to follow Jesus," I sang - and meant it with my whole heart.
Since then, years have passed and I discovered though I settled the direction of my life; I have to settle it again every day, and every new decision must rest on that first decision.
And when the dust settles from that initial decision, the ground to build upon is God’s Word.
We find in 1 Peter 5:10:
But may the God of all grace,
who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while,
perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
Stay in the word and it will settle us. We are strengthened by learning the character and nature of God and how He interacts with His people.
You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Isaiah 26:3
Stayed is just another word for settle. When we keep our minds on Him, through the Word, through prayer, through meditating on the word, we’ll be on solid ground. We won’t be wishy washy.
And, we won’t turn back.
What about you? Have you settled the direction of your life? If not, I'd love to pray with you about it. Drop me a line.

Thanks to my friend, Dayna, who caused ideas to pop up when she said, "dust settles!"

I love the direction you took "Settle"! Powerful testimony and truth!
ReplyDeleteWhen I turned to follow Christ,
ReplyDeleteHe did a facepalm, said, "Oh, CRAP!
I guess My grace was underpriced;
however will I beat this rap?
This guy's a lunatic for mayhem;
all the pubs that he has wrecked!
And I can't palm him off on Satan;
the devil got the first reject.
No, I guess he'll have to come;
he did choose Me, after all,
and if heaven comes undone
it's be an epic beer-joint-crawl.
Still, We'd better find a place
for a holding cell, just in case."

A very timely reminder.
ReplyDeleteEvery decision is based on the first. I love that line. A great reminder to check our daily decisions against that foundational commitment to accept Jesus.
ReplyDeleteThis ties in with how the Lord was ministering to me last night through His Word and specifically through the hymn "How Firm a Foundation".
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
There is only one firm foundation. Your topic was a great reminder about what our pastor preached yesterday. Sometimes God wants us to hear the same thing in different ways.
ReplyDeleteJerralea, I love that you shared that song I Have Decided To Follow Jesus. Seeing it here today brought back so many memories of singing those words of commitment all those years ago.
ReplyDeleteYes! It's a daily turning towards Jesus that builds a relationship and keeps us on course.
