Full like Stephen

I was thinking it was ironic the prompt for Thanksgiving week's Five Minute Friday would be the word, "full."

It's tempting to write on being full of good food, or possibly our emotional tanks filled up with good conversation and fellowship with our loved ones; but, actually, I have something else in mind.

Everyone liked this idea, and they chose the following: Stephen (a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit) ... Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people. Acts 6:5a,8, NLT

GO

I want to be full like Stephen. Stephen was one of the original set of the first seven deacons. He was chosen because of his faith and reliance on the Holy Spirit, which in turn enabled him to be full of grace and power.

I want to be full of those same things. How do I do it?

Peter, throughout his second epistle, tells us it is possible to grow in grace by growing in knowledge about our Lord Jesus Christ.

So my goal is to grow in my knowledge of Jesus. I only know two ways to do that - spend time in bible study and prayer.

Bible study is my passion; of course, I can always do better!

I must confess the hurry of my busy life spells death to spending quality time in prayer. I'm so glad the Lord listens to my whispered quick prayers, but if I want more of Him, I must give Him more of me.

It's vital to be full of the things God has for me. In this season of looking towards 2020, I have a choice on how I'm going to spend my time. Let me choose wisely.

STOP

What about you? Do you feel full of the good things of God? Or are you filled with hurry and anxiety? In 2020, I'm going to focus on slow, and I will be sharing from time to time what that looks like.

  1. If you really want to be
full of Jesus, yeah, the Christ,
then come and take a walk with me,
and we'll follow what He sacrificed.
He could have had an honoured life,
    a carpenter, admired and skilled,
with cute kids and a trophy wife,
but He went where He was killed.
He spoke a truth that was not wanted
to the folks who would not hear,
for their pride was what they vaunted,
and they held themselves most dear.
You wanna rise? Prepare to fall
for the Dude who died for all.

  2. Thank you for these thought-provoking questions and the arrows that point back to scripture and to the areas of my heart that need revisiting, perhaps even re-wiring.

  3. I love that you have chosen to honor the testimony and example of Stephen! Amazing that he was so aware of the working of God in his life even under horrible circumstances.

  4. Oh, to be FULL of faith!!! I feel like so often I need to cry out to God, "help my unbelieve." My prayers, my life, my influence in this world could be so much more for Him if I were only FULL of faith! Thank you for these great reminders!

    Pinned.

  5. I am blessed (full) beyond measure. God has been so good to us--carrying us through cancer and mental illness, and job loss. He is faithful. He is good.
