The Journey's Weekly Check-Up #8

Otherwise known as “A Journal of Reflection”

Share something that made you smile
Rory came to MiMi and PaPa's house again this weekend, and we binge-watched the NetFlix series, "Boss Baby," together. It's the cutest show, and I confess that I enjoy it more than she does; but it makes me smile when she sits on the couch next to me watching it - for about 10 seconds and then she's off to build block towers or carry a ball around.

Share something that made you think

Today’s scripture writing included Psalm 101:1-4 and when I read it, two lines stood out:

I will walk within my house with a perfect heart
I will set nothing wicked before my eyes

The second line tells you how to maintain a perfect heart. “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes.” We must be so careful in choosing what we read and watch! I know as for myself, I’m very susceptible to messages seen on television. I can watch something and then that night during my dreams, I’ll run variations of the theme through my mind over and over.

That very tendency is the reason I started the practice of reading a devotional just as I’m drifting off to sleep; even though I do the bulk of my quiet time with the Lord in the mornings when I’m alert. I want something positive to be in my subconscious throughout the night!

I also thought about walking within our homes with a perfect heart means what you do in secret really matters. Many times when we think no one will know we will let our standards slip.

A person of integrity will always do the next right thing, even if no one is looking. I want to be that person!

Share a win from this week

I'm still keeping up with my goal of writing first thing every morning. Sunday was day 30!

Share a great quote

“God never hurries. He has no deadlines against which He must work. So you can quiet your spirit and relax your nerves.”  -AW Tozer

Share a song or a scripture that ministered to you

In our adult bible study class, we started the book of Daniel. I am so pumped about it. This week, I noticed this scripture:

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8 NKJV

Did you see it, too? Daniel purposed in his heart. It's important to resolve in your heart what you will do, and what you will not do!

I love this pic because it is so Baylee: she loves nurturing (and bossing) Brody!

How did YOUR week go? I'd love to hear all about it.

  2. We were JUST talking about what we do behind closed doors really does matter. It also sets the tone for the home and as women we bear the brunt of that. Thanks for a great reminder of this. And those grandtwins are just so darn cute!!!

  3. Great verses to consider when TV has so much that is not worthy for our eyes. I'm happy for the ability to fast forward. That 10 second attention span is tiring. :) It's a stage that we need to appreciate, though.
