Anniversary

I'm participating with the writers at Five Minute Friday today.  We free write for 5 minutes on a one word prompt.

Today's word:  Anniversary

GO!

At age 14, my path seemed straight and smooth ...

This summer marks 48 years since I made the defining decision of my life – accepting Christ as my Savior.

And what a ride it has been!

During these 48 years much has happened – meeting and marrying my spouse, having 3 awesome daughters followed by being blessed with three terrific grandchildren, moving to two different states, job changes, church changes, leadership opportunities … well I could go on and on.

Also, during these years, I’ve experienced infertility, loss of a parent and grandparents, disability of my spouse, unwelcome job changes, hard financial times capped off with a major flood in my home.

What is interesting during these 48 years, overall, there were relatively few times that were trouble free. Now I'm not complaining, it's just interesting to see that you can still have a happy life in the midst of a struggle.

(STOP - 5 minutes are up, but I've more to say!)

In fact, just out of curiosity, I made a timeline of the events, good and bad, that took place in that time frame.

Most of the years had some kind of trial our family faced.

Yet, I’m here to tell you despite struggles in my life, I still felt joy and experienced abundant living.

The secret?

Never, never, ever, give up your faith in your Savior. After all, He’s walking your journey with you. Why would you give up on the best Companion you could ever find?

I also noticed the joy and abundant living has increased the farther into my journey I’ve traveled.

I think it’s a result of being in the Word more. The Bible, also known as my “travel guide,” has encouraged me to keep trekking on. It points out more and more about the characteristics of my Companion.

The more I know about Him, the better I feel!

Now, I know the path always has a bend in the road!

So, Happy 48th Anniversary of walking with Jesus to me! I'll be traveling with Him all the way Home.

What about you? Have you noticed more joy in your journey the more you dive into His word? Leave a comment and share!

  1. I find this oddly encouraging. It seems that we have faced one trial after another in our family and I keep waiting for it to get easier. But you are right, it is possible to be happy even in difficulty and if we wait until things ease up to really live, we'll never get around to enjoying our lives.

  4. My response to your post is a song by Andrae Crouch..."Through it all, through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, I've learned to trust in God. Through it all, through it all I've learned to depend upon His Word."
