Privileged to Choose

I’m joining the group at FMF where we write for 5 minutes on one word. Today’s word:  Privilege

GO

I wasn't born to wealth and privilege.

Or was I?

It's true there are no silver spoons in the mouths of any of my relatives. We are a working-class kind of people.

Yet, compared with third-world countries, I am privileged.

I'm privileged to have water to drink, reasonably clean air to breathe, food for my table and a comfy bed upon which to dream.

According to an article by Elephant Journal that has been shared on Facebook for some time, because I can read, have a roof over my head, and have spare change in a dish, I'm among the world's most fortunate.

I'm not sure about that, but one privilege I hold dearer than any other is the privilege to worship the one true God!

I think the reason why I was privileged to hear about Jesus and have the opportunity to go do life with the brethren is because I've had ancestors who loved God.

My great grandfather Samuel's obituary tells of his acceptance of the Lord when he was a young man.

Because of God's promise, He extended love and mercy to my father's generation, to mine, to my kids and their kids.

Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandmentsDeuteronomy 7:9 NASB

Does that mean my whole family will automatically go to heaven because of Great Grandpa Samuel's decision?

No, we must all make our own choices.

STOP

(Time's up, but I'm continuing on with "the rest of the story.")

But because of a believer's decision to accept Christ; hopefully he nurtures, teaches and lives out his faith before the next generation about the Lord.

However, if circumstances cut short the believer's influence, I believe God mercifully makes sure the descendants get opportunities to choose.

Our job is to spread the Word so ALL generations can hear the good news.

  1. It's so good to stop and think about all we're blessed with. Thanks for the reminder, Jerralea.

  2. Hi Jerralea! I loved your opening thought. Were we born into privilege? So much of that depends on what I define as privilege.
My husband and I bought new mattress and box spring for our bed, and let me tell you, I thank God for it almost nightly. Its SO comfortable. I know that so many don't have what I have.
What an inspiration to know about your ancestors before you, and how much faith was there. What a gift to you all! But you're so right in that it's really a personal decision to continue in that faith or walk away. What a true privilege to accept that faith and run with it!
    In God's peace,
    Ceil

  3. Yes, compared to many in our world, we are privileged. The best privilege is being a child of God and a recipient of his mercy and grace.
Hope you have a good week, Jerrelea!
