Counting My Blessings

Finally! I have an opportunity to join in with the bloggers at Friday's Fave Five to look back over my week and count at least 5 highlights of the week.

The first highlight is my quarterly week off. (I receive 4 weeks a year, and take them one per quarter.) I cannot say I got anything extra done this week but I'm still thankful to have the time off.

Secondly, I was able to spend Monday with Malia and Rory AND I also had lunch with my long-time bestie, Cora. I haven't seen her in fo-evah! (Oh by the way, FFF friends if you didn't see my monthly wrap-up, you might not know that Miss Aurora Sage, otherwise known as Rory, made her appearance July 15.)

Next up was a trip to Paducah with my hubby. Eating out, browsing in stores and then a trip over to Metropolis to hang out at Fort Massac State Park on the Ohio River. It was a fun but tiring day (sitting alongside the river wears me out!).

The major highlight of this week was Wednesday when our church voted in our new Pastor, Rev. Jack Oliver and his lovely wife, Jessica. This is such a highlight for me because my work on the Search Committee is done!

One little fun blessing this week was that my good friend, Glenda, found me some Miche accessories at a yard sale. If you don't know what Miche is, it's a brand of purses that sadly has went out of business. The idea behind Miche is that you have a base hand bag with various "shells" that magnetically clasp on to your base. You can change your purse's color without having to switch out the contents. I can't understand why they went out of business because I think it is an awesome idea. Glenda found me about 9 new shells, so basically I have 9 new purses for about $15!

It's the little things ...

Dinner with the Grands:  Thursday, we had family dinner with all 3 grandbabies present. Our middle daughter had to work, though. We are trying to get together once a week but with everyone's work schedules it is hard to find a day when everyone is free.

Quote of the week from a new-to-me blogger whose writing I adore:

Lord, free us from our addiction to being liked.
Because it’s far better to be loved. And that we are.
… Scott Sauls, Death by Selfie

And that wraps up this week on the Journey. How did YOUR week go? I'd love to know. Leave me a comment, or consider linking up your own post at the lovely Susanne's space, Living to Tell the Story

  4. Congratulations on the new precious bundle! It sounds like you had a great week off, and a wonderful houseful with all the grands for dinner. I didn't know that Miche went out of business. Those purses were so much fun. What a great deal your friend found for you.

  5. Congratulations on the new grandbaby! How nice to have four weeks off - I think it is a great idea to spread them around through the year. It's nice to get things done in them sometimes, but nice to have time truly off other times. I had not heard of Miche but the idea sounds great. It's hard for a church to be without a pastor - glad you have a new one settling in!

  8. She's a beauty and I love her name. Aurora Sage. Rory. Perfect. We almost share the same birthday. I came into the world two days prior to Rory many years ago (in a galaxy far ......).

  9. What a beautiful addition to your family! And such a sweet name.
I love the idea of weekly family dinners. That sure is a great way to stay connected with even adult kiddos. I think I'll see if we can do this monthly (we don't all live within the same city.)
I LOVE the idea of your purse shells. What a thoughtful friend to find such a find for you. I bet she was so excited to give them to you.
Finally I LOVE the quote. Thanks for sharing something I will think about all day today (Sunday).
FInally hurray on calling your new pastor. Being on the search committee was a big deal. And now you get to settle in and enjoy this next phase of church life. We are just now beginning such a process.
So glad to see that you are back! Have a great week.

  10. Congratulations on the birth of your little Aurora Sage! Grandchildren are a huge blessing!
My husband is an elder in our church so I have an inkling of how time consuming and prayer consuming church decisions are. Hurray for your new pastor!
I'm glad you had the week to vacation! I am so sorry you were so worn out by your day at the river. :) :)
    Love that quote!

  11. Again, congrats on the birth of your lovely granddaughter! So precious!

I like how you take a week per quarter. And sometimes not accomplishing "anything" is not the goal but to just be during those weeks. Being spontaneous to do pleasurable things is rest. Love the river pictures. Sounds like a fun day.

Glad your church family has found their new pastor.
