D is for Delight ...

When I began this challenge, I thought my main obstacles would be foods beginning with the letters J, Q, X and Z, but I found some other challenges along the way.

For instance, I have no recipe for D.  Think about it, how many foods start with D?

So, I had to get creative and adapt my Cherry Delight recipe to Delightful Cherry Dessert. I've been making this for special family dinners and church functions for a long time.

In fact, I date this recipe back to when you could buy a can of cherry pie filling for 99¢. I bought those cans like crazy and used them in 4-5 of my main staple recipes.

Delightful Cherry Dessert

2 pkgs. Dream Whip

1 C milk

1 tsp. vanilla

1 Angel Food Cake

6 oz. cream cheese

1 C powdered sugar

1 can Cherry Pie Filling

Mix 2 pkgs. of Dream Whip with the milk and vanilla - prepared according to pkg. directions - in a large bowl.

In another bowl, cream 6 oz. of cream cheese and 1 cup powdered sugar. Then fold into Dream Whip bowl. Stir in one angel food cake that you have cut up into cubes. Spread into a 9x13 casserole dish. Top with one can cherry pie filling. Chill.

Although I love to delight in cheap desserts, I've learned there is something more important to delight in.

Delight yourself also in the Lord,And He shall give you the desires of your heart.Psalm 37:4 NKJV

This is one of my favorite scriptures and one that I stood upon during those years of infertility.

What does it mean to delight in the Lord? For me, I learned to appreciate His goodness and learn more about who He is. When I became convinced in my heart that He loved me and wanted the best for me, I began to let go of my tightly held frustration on not being able to conceive. I began to trust that He had a plan for my life and it was going to be GOOD, not just a settle-for existence. It wasn't long afterwards we had a special service at church where we and two other couples who were experiencing infertility were called out for special prayer. Within three months, all of we three couples were expecting.

I'm not sure it would have ever happened for me if I hadn't learned to delight in the love my Lord has for me.

What delights you?

  1. I'm glad you did not have a picture for your delight recipe here. I might have clawed through the screen to get it :) Cream cheese is a favorite food of mine :)

I truly think we need to delight in God more, I do struggle with this.

  4. I want to try and delight in the Lord more. Sometimes His love is choked out by life's trials, but this is a good reminder that we should delight in him always. Wow! That cherry dessert looks soooooo good!
