Still and Small

Today's word prompt is ... STILL

I've heard it said that if you want to get someone's attention, whisper.  It works - try it sometime with your child.  If you whisper, they will try their best to hear.

God does the same thing with us. His voice is still and small.

It seems like it would be so much easier if He just used an audible voice with booming loud tones.  We'd know right away what He wants.

Instead, He wants us to seek Him, to really pay attention and see if we can hear Him.  He is honored by our sacrifice of taking the time to listen.

Really, that's all anyone wants of a person who says they love them - the gift of time spent listening.

STOP

5 Minute Friday is now hosted by Kate at the blog "heading home." This is meant to be a free write, which means: no editing, no over-thinking, no worrying about perfect grammar or punctuation.

Just write.

Also, the most important rule is that you visit the blog of the person who linked up before you and leave some encouragement.  That’s the most fun of all, and the heart of this community.

  2. That's all He wants, that we should seek Him, love Him, reach for him even when His voice is still and tiny. Thank you for this lovely piece.

  5. Brilliant. I wrote something similar recently, as I feel the same way about intuition: I think it always speaks quietly to us as it wants us to really pay attention to what it's trying to tell us. Beautiful post. Thank you.

  6. That's a really good tactic when someone's raising his/her voice, as well. Make yours more quiet instead of raising the level...often it will calm the other person down. (Or at least REALLY confuse him/her!)

  7. I was just thinking about this the other day - how pleasant it is to be with someone who is a good listener. Not that I want to monopolize the conversation but it's nice to talk to someone who really is listening to what you are saying. I'm sure God feels the same way. Sometimes it's an effort to be still and listen to Him but I try. Thanks for the post.
