Day 24: Dare

I grew up with one desperate goal in mind.  I wanted to be like everyone else and have a normal family. Guess what I found out?  Nobody is normal.  (I hope this doesn't offend you; but really, it's true.)

In fact, as I grew in my Christian faith, I learned my goal should not be to be like everyone else. I should stand out. Believe it or not, we are to be peculiar! What???

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light; - 1 Peter 2:9

How can we stand out if we look like everyone else?

We are actually strangers and aliens living in the world. Our goal is not the American Dream but rather to keep on the journey to making heaven our home and taking others with us.

I dare to be different. I hope I am different from everyone not just in the way I look but in the way I act. It would be great if it was such a radical difference that everyone I came in contact with would notice.

My new normal is not to be normal, it's to be peculiar. I dare every believer reading this to do the same!

This post is Day 24 of a series entitled 31 Days of Life on the Journey where I share about my journey as a believer, wife, mom and grandmother.  I invite you to return each day to find the newest link here. Myquillin at The Nester is the creator of the 31 Day Challenge.  I'm linking this post to the category, "Faith and Inspiration." You can also visit Kate's blog, "Heading Home" to read the posts of all the other participants of the 31 day challenge who are writing on her daily prompts for 5 minutes. Today's prompt is "dare."

  2. Jerralea, I love this. Like you, I tried for years to be "normal." Only, I never really felt like I fit in with those I considered to be normal.

The important thing is to remember we are chosen by our Father. When we walk in His ways, we will be peculiar. I'm learning to be good with that. Thanks for the reminder to not try to be like everyone else. Loved this!

  4. I do think we can't be normal and then try to spread the love of God and Jesus through our faith. We have to have the circumstances that we go through to show others there's hope, even in the midst of the worst possible circumstances, and that hope is Jesus :)
