Day 1 - Move

We stood in the hallway, hands clasped and heads bowed, praying for a move of the Holy Spirit in our service. Our worship team realized rightly that in our own selves we could do nothing. We needed the Holy Spirit desperately in our service.

We needed not just words, but His power.

These were desperate times. Families stood on the brink of dissolution. Grown children who should know the truth instead were mired in their addictions and we felt powerless to help.

The church was dwindling away and there were voices saying "Is it wise to keep on going when we can hardly pay our bills? Should we wait until the last moment before the doors were closed to give up?"

Voices swirling in our heads keeping us from focusing on what we know.

We know You are with us.

We know You have called us to be a light in this neighborhood.

We know You can do the impossible when two or three gather in your name and pray the prayer of agreement.

We needed a "...demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God." 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

Just like Paul prayed that his preaching would be a demonstration of the power of God, we needed a faith-building move of the Spirit to remind us once again that God is a God of the impossible. Our faith is not in those voices calling themselves the voice of reason but our faith is in the power of God.

This scene happened almost a year ago in my church.  God did move and we are still here. Yet before each service, we still gather and pray for anointing and plead for a move of the Holy Spirit because we are a frail and fickle people who need to be reminded again and again of the power of God.

Have you ever witnessed a move of the Holy Spirit?  Did things change? Your words are important. Please share in the comments and tell us your story.

This post is Day 1 of a series entitled 31 Days of Life on the Journey where I share about my journey as a believer, wife, mom and grandmother.  I invite you to return each day to find the newest link here. Myquillin at The Nester is the creator of the 31 Day Challenge.  I'm linking this post to the category, "Faith and Inspiration." You can also visit Kate's blog, "Heading Home" to read the posts of all the other participants of the 31 day challenge who are writing on her daily prompts for 5 minutes. Today's prompt is "move."

You can read each day's posts in order as I post them at this link.

  1. So true we do need the move of the Holy Spirit. I am glad your church is still there ministering to those it needs to minister to in Jesus' name.

  2. Oh yes we know this scenario as well! It's so powerful when you feel the presence of Holy Spirit! So many are in need of it. We can do nothing without Him. Thanks for sharing this. God bless

  4. I certainly enjoyed reading here today, Jerralea. What a wise group of Believers who realize that they are a group of "frail and fickle people", as you put it. I've been memorizing John 15 and Jesus reminds me that without Him I can do nothing. What a blessing to read of a church body who realizes that and depends on Him!
