Willing to Serve

WILLING

From time to time, as a church secretary, I will put announcements in the church bulletin ending with this phrase, "If you are willing to help, please contact the church office."

It's no secret the church is looking for willing workers!

It's also true that God is looking for willing workers.  I think of that scene that Isaiah describes of his vision in the throne room of God and the question, "Who will go for us?"  Isaiah's response rings down through the ages, "Here am I, send me."

Once, during a Sunday School class, we did an exercise when we were to say something positive about each of the class members.  What a thrill when I was described as "willing to help with whatever she is asked to do."

My heart's desire is to be willing to do whatever the Lord calls me to do because I know that He will equip whoever He calls.  God doesn't make a mistake.  He will not ask you to do something you cannot do.

Are you willing?  What if He calls you to do the most important and precious job there could be? Mothering little children, wiping dirty faces, feeding hungry bellies and generally being the hands of Christ in whatever you do.

There may not be much glory in it, but you do have this promise:

Isaiah 1:19  New King James Version (NKJV)

If you are willing and obedient,
You shall eat the good of the land;

STOP

Five Minute Friday

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

Sounds like fun, yes?  If you want to join us, go to Lisa-Jo Baker.com.

  2. Thank you Jerralea! I enjoyed your post-- I am one of those belly fillers, face washers and it's easy to get wrapped up in the everyday-ness of it all! Loved finding you through #FMF!

  3. Being willing to do whatever is needed is a huge asset to have, Jerralea. And a huge compliment to hear. We need more people like you in every church and place. :) I want to be more that way myself; I just don't always feel competent, but I need to let go of that need for perfection. Willingness is usually preferred over perfection anyway when someone needs help!

  4. I am in total agreement with Lisa! And I too want to be willing to do or go where God would send me.
Glad to visit with you today! It has been a tough week and your words are always uplifting!
