Starting Small

.... Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin ...
 Zechariah 4:9-11 NLT

SMALL

In our "super-size" culture, we like to think of big grandiose schemes and plans.  We want to live large and scorn little small beginnings.

Yet anything worthwhile starts as a small spark of an idea and then with hard work and perseverance blossoms into something great.

I think most of us would agree that something needs to be done in America.  Values are lost, morals decaying and even in the church families are disintegrating.

What we need is a fresh vision of Jesus. We need our churches to once again be on fire with Spirit of the Lord directing us and guiding us because He alone knows the answer to our need.

So how does this happen?  How do we get on fire again?

In times past, revivals and great awakening of the churches has come when one person began to pray.  Jonathon Edwards was only one person, but began to pray and enlisted others to pray which ultimately led to the Great Awakening here in America during the years of 1734-1750.

Jonathan probably thought how small his efforts were in the face of such apathy in the church.

His small beginning, though, led to a nation of churches once again on fire for God.

It is said that a great revival in Wales in the early 1900s began with one coal miner agonizing in prayer over the state of the church.

Who will be the one starting small in seeking God in our day and age?

Will it be you?

  1. Jerralea,

Wise words to remind us about the power of prayer. Let us follow Jonathan Edward's example and heart.
Thanks for applying the verse in Zechariah to prayer for our nation.

  2. Great reminder, God needs to grow and nurture things - they don't come to us fully developed. There is great value in the small things of life.
