Attitude of Gratitude

Don't you hate it when you get cornered by a complaining person?  Nothing is good in their eyes and they are happy to share all the gloomy details of their thankless existence with anyone in listening distance.

Child of God, may it not be so with believers!  To be sure, we all have down times with problems pressing us on every side so it seems; yet, there are many gifts for which we can offer thanks to God.

Are you able to breathe easily?   Many a person with emphysema or COPD  would like to be in your shoes.

Can you walk?  Those in wheelchairs would love to trade places.

Are you able to see the glory of a sunset or the love on your child's face?  Those who cannot see would treasure such a moment.

How about when your spouse or children drive you crazy.  Think of the lonely ones who lead solitary lives and wish they had a family.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

A basic characteristic of a believer should be thanksgiving. In fact, we are told in the Word that when we make requests to God, we should do so with thanksgiving.  Does that mean I should be thankful for my problem?  I think it means that even in the midst of your problem you should be able to find something that makes you grateful.

Take a minute to count your blessings.  I believe you'll find many more than you thought there would be.

Oh, even when we have nothing on this earth, we have our dearest Lord Jesus who never leaves us or forsake us and that is the greatest Gift we can ever have. He is in any case the source of all love, peace and joy!
