Hugs to Sister Barb

I'd like to give Sister Barb a hug.  She doesn't live in my area anymore, but if I get to see her again, I will hug her and tell her what a great inspiration she was (and is) to me.

Sister Barb was the ultimate pastor's wife, friend and mentor.  A true Titus 2 woman*, she was willing to take me under her wing and teach me things I needed to know - things about ministry, and things about organization.

I had never really met an organized person before.  She opened my eyes to list making, keeping and building your own planner, storage, couponing, menu planning and so much more! Every time we got together, I learned something new.  She was always willing to answer my questions and show me "hands-on" the way she did things.

She introduced me to books on home organization. I learned about Emilie Barnes and her "More Hours in My Day" books and Pam Young and Peggy Jones book, The Side-Tracked Home Executive, which ultimately led to The Flylady.

She encouraged me to be in ministry.  I started out being a Daisies Missionette Leader with her help and guidance.  Although teaching little girls did not end up being my calling, it was a stepping stone on to other avenues of service.  The things I learned during the year she lived in our community started me on the path to being the Ministry Assistant I am today.

That's right - I was only under her mentoring for one short year before her family moved on, but I will never forget the lessons I learned from her. She proved you might not have a long time with a person, but you can sure make an impact in her life!

* a Titus 2 woman is a woman who lives by the following scripture:

Guide older women into lives of reverence so they end up as neither gossips nor drunks, but models of goodness. By looking at them, the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children, be virtuous and pure, keep a good house, be good wives. We don’t want anyone looking down on God’s Message because of their behavior. (The Message, Titus 2:3-5)

  2. What a wonderful woman to give a hug to!

There's a great lesson to be learned here. Always live you life in a way that will influence and impact someone else's for good. You never know how long you will have to do it.

    Your post was so inspiring.

  3. Dear Jerralea
I truly admire such organised people. My husband is like sister Barb, where I am the arty type walking with my head in the clouds most of the days (the days I am not, I have to battle Fibrfog). But the two of us fill each up so well. We are one another's "help-mate".

  4. It is such a gift to find a mentor like this. My guess is that you fulfill this same role for someone else even if you don't specifically know it.
