Feasting on Grace

When I first started blogging, I researched a lot of articles regarding the art of building a blog.  One of the things frequently mentioned was that my blog should have a "voice."

This posed a problem because it was hard to narrow down my interests.  I loved home decor, cooking and mommy blogs, I also loved reading about thrifting and organizing. I'm very passionate about my spiritual life and I love reading  - and writing - encouraging words and focusing on scripture.  Then there was my love of landscapes and the enjoyment I received seeing beautiful photography.

How could I choose?

I decided to name my blog, Jerralea's Journey, and relate all my interests as I traveled the path God has laid out for me.

You see, we are more than a one dimensional person.  We are multifaceted individuals with the need to feed our souls, bodies, spirits and minds.

I want to speak to all those areas. I speak not as an authority but as someone who wants to share things that encourage me. I just believe that what encourages me might lift up someone else, too.

Lately, I've been enamored with the idea of feasting.  Not just feasting by eating yummy foods, but also feasting on spiritual food and on beauty that feeds our minds. We need not just whole foods but to be wholly fed inside and out.

Whole people are then able to minister to others.  You can't give out unless you've taken in.  By the same token, if you receive and receive but never give out, you become stagnant and less than useful.  No one wants that!

I am sharing at least once a week something to feast upon.  Sometimes it might be a beautiful picture, scripture, recipe or an idea to improve your home or your schedule.  I'll post something that excites me in the hopes that it might excite you as well.

Today's beautiful thought comes from a line in an old song, "Feasting on the riches of His Grace."

Grace ... one of the most beautiful thoughts I've ever heard.  Grace means undeserved favor.  I sure need that!  I'm so thankful I don't have to earn God's blessings.

Because I never could.

I think this is my most favorite scripture regarding grace:

Ephesians 2:7-9 (King James Version)

That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

He does it all. I just believe.  It's nothing I do, because if I could do it, He wouldn't have had to give His life. Nope, it's all Him.

The great part?  He is exceedingly rich in grace.

Exceedingly means immensely.  Extremely - like to an unusual degree.  More grace than you'd ever expect.

Feast on this thought ... He has extreme grace and He offers it to me.

And to YOU!

I'm linking this post to the community of writers at #TellHisStory  at JenniferDukesLee.com because His Story is that He is rich in grace and offers it to those who have faith.  My story is that I do have faith and believe.

  2. What a blessing this post is. I am currently reading (and almost finished) Jerry Bridges book, Transforming Grace. A great read! But here today I am thankful that you have shared about the meaning of grace and the fact that we can't do anything to receive it...we just accept it.
