I don't know why it is, but it seems like everyone has to go through a time of brokenness. If we are smart, we take our broken pieces back to Our Creator and ask for His help in getting our life back together.
Broken people cannot fix broken people.
When I see the word broken, my first thought is a powerful song I once heard performed in a thriving church in the Tennessee mountains. The choir sang the chorus and an old gentleman named Clarence got up and sang the verses.
Somehow, you knew old Clarence was singing from experience.
Here are the awesome lyrics to the song, "He Didn't Throw the Clay Away," as performed by The Cathedrals. I don't know if you've ever heard this song, but reading the lyrics will bless you almost as much as hearing it!
Empty and broken, I came back to Him
A vessel unworthy, so scarred from sin.
But He did not despair...He started over again
And I bless the day, He didn't throw the clay away.
Over and over, He molds me and makes me,
Into His likeness, He fashions the clay.
A vessel of honor, I am today,
All because Jesus didn't throw the clay away.
He is the Potter...I am the clay
And molded in His image, He wants me to stay.
Oh, but when I stumble...
When I fall...
When my vessel breaks,
He just picks up those pieces,
He does not throw the clay away...
Over and over, He molds me and makes me,
Into His likeness, He fashions the clay.
A vessel of honor, I am today,
All because Jesus didn't throw the clay away.
A vessel of honor, I am today,
All because Jesus didn't throw the clay away.

From one broken vessel to another, I urge you to let the Master Potter start molding His design upon you. Yes, it will hurt and be uncomfortable, but one day, you'll be a thing of beauty.

Oh, Jerralea, this is so beautiful. I've not heard the song, but you're right, the lyrics along are so touching. I'd love to hear the music.
ReplyDeleteWe certainly are broken pots. But a pastor once preached that it's through our brokenness (cracks) that the light of Christ shines through.
ReplyDeleteDear Jerralea
ReplyDeleteOh, I have to swallow a lot of tears now! I think the person who wrote the lyrics of this song must surely have written from great experience. Actually, it is everyone's story, don't you think!
Blessings XX

Hi Jerralea! Your post is just lovely. Of course we all feel broken and useless, but God never feels that way.
ReplyDeleteI could just see Clarence singing that song! The lyrics were a blessing, just as you predicted.
Beautiful!

Oh, I am so glad He doesn't throw the clay away...that message is beautiful...and a promise we can cling to when we are broken...
ReplyDeleteThis line is so true:
"Broken people cannot fix broken people. "
