Daybook: 07.01.13

FOR TODAY, MONDAY, JULY 1ST

Outside my window...
overcast with occasional misty rain.  It's 64°.

I am thankful... to have work that I love doing.

In the kitchen... grilled hot dogs, fresh veggies and dip, baked beans

I am wearing... White jean capris, teal tank top and hot pink cardi

I am reading... a new P. L. Gaus mystery, "The Names of Our Tears."

I am looking forward to... July 4th - love those days off!

I am learning how to fix my hair in a new style.  Today went great, yesterday ... not so much.

Around the house...the rose bushes are blooming and the vincas are growing like crazy!

I am pondering...Romans 2:29 ....

Romans 2:29

New American Standard Bible (NASB)
29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.
Circumcision of the heart ... I'm thinking that means cutting away what's not needed. Is there something in your heart (your life) that is not needed?  Would cutting it out make it more clearly to you and to others that you are a child of God.  Would it bring you closer to Him?

Are we more concerned about what would bring us praise from God rather than what makes men think well of us?

Something to ponder!

A favorite quote for today...

” Beware the barrenness of busyness.”
… David Jeremiah, Turning Point Devotional, 06.18.13

I fall into this trap so easily - thinking that fruitfulness means being involved in many things, yet all those things keep me from being at the feet of Jesus ...

One of my favorite things...  a text message from my daughters

A few plans for the rest of the week: a road trip on the 4th

A peek into my day...

I need a bench like this one at the home of Laura Ingalls Wilder to sit and ponder.  I just know I'd get inspired!

Note:  It's a sign of a too-busy life to post on Wednesday a post you started on Monday!  My apologies for the lateness of this post.

The daybook is a concept created by Peggy Hostetler.  You can link up at her blog, The Simple Woman's Daybook.

  1. You always sound like your dressed so cute! I really liked your "pondering", set me to thinking and I know there is something that I should cut away. Hope you have a safe road trip on the 4th. I don't want to be anywhere near a road on that day. It is already crazy out there. LOL! Happy 4th!

  2. You always seem to have something wonderful in your kitchen... grilled hot dogs sound delicious. We had them recently and I'm already hungry for them again.
And you can never go wrong with baked beans- yum!

So wonderful you have today off. Hope you and your husband have a great road trip! Sounds like so much fun to take a trip on the 4th.

I love the photo you shared. I too wish I had a place like that to sit and think. How wonderful and quiet and tranquil.

Hope you have a blessed day!

  3. I enjoyed reading your Daybook entry for this month! The quote by David Jeremiah that you've chosen speaks to me because it can be so easy to get caught in that trap of busyness.

  4. Hi Jerralea! I hope your 4th was fun?

I think that quote on the busyness was so insightful. I am known for buzzing around the house a little too fast at times! Quiet is wonderful, and as I get older, I appreciate it more :)

    Happy Friday!

  5. I relate with that hair-fixing thing. Sigh. One day I like it; next day I hate it. ha.

I like your ponderings on Rom 2:29. I need to think more about that as well....

Text messages from daughters--one of my favorite things too! May you have a blessed weekend, Jerralea.
