Lame Thoughts from a Worshiper

My kids think I'm "lame."

I took some ribbing lately when I posted some limericks I wrote.  Really?  It's lame to write limericks - especially if you're not Irish?

You know the great thing about being in my fifties?  I've learned not to care when I look or act a little "less than."  In other words, I don't care if people realize I'm not perfect.

I embrace my lameness.

I especially embrace the fact that I might look lame to those who observe me as a Christ-follower. I want to be known as a worshiper.

Worship should be a part of everything we do.  I'm reminded of the famous 17th century monk, Bro. Lawrence, who practiced the presence of God during his daily chores - even worshiping while peeling potatoes!

Paul says this is my reasonable acts of worship:

I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1 AMP)

After all, the One who gave His all for me should receive nothing less than my all.

It's reasonable for me to talk to Him all day long and seek guidance in every decision I make.

It's reasonable for me to notice in every day life the gifts He has given me and give Him thanks for each one.

It's reasonable for me to remember the world is watching my witness and taking note of every step I take.  I don't want to do anything that would reflect badly on my Lord.

If everyone knows I am a Christ-follower and then sees me slack on the job, or hears me gripe, complain or gossip, I've just tarnished my witness.

It's okay if people think I'm lame, I just don't want them to think I'm a bad witness for Christ.

I saw this great quote from Tozer that is so appropriate:

A W Tozer ‏@TozerAW
"If your life does not worship God, your lips do not worship God either." AW Tozer (Reclaiming Christianity)

What say you?  Does it bother you what people think?  Can people tell who you worship?

I'm linking this post up with the  #TellHisStory community at Jennifer Dukes Lee's blog.  Because my story is that I'm a worshiper who is a little bit lame ...

  1. I used to care what people thought about me but not anymore. Little by little God has removed this from my life. God has made me realize that if I want to follow him, I can't worry about what other people think. I have to tell you it is a liberating feeling, there is freedom to be found there. I can only pray that the way I live points others to Christ. I don't always get it right but I continue to get up and take my place in this battle.

Thank you for sharing this Jerralea. I love what you have done with the place, your blog looks great. I still want to place your blog button on my blog so others can find you. Keep on keeping on for Christ! Much love.

  2. I love this! In the eyes of some, I'm lame too. :-) Makes me chuckle. To the world, probably most Christians look lame. I think this is a new motto: I'm a Christian and lame. :-)

  3. Let's be lame together.. :)
This reminds me of that verse where it talks about how David danced with abandon for Him .... I want to have that same spirit.

  4. Dear Jerralea
I cannot tell you how much that little book of Brother Lawrence meant to me in my walk with God. No shame in being imperfect; actually Paul compares us to cracked vessels and that we truly are. Our Lord Jesus did say that He power is made perfect in weakness. So, dear sister, you are in good company. Is that the name of Tozer's book? I have never heard of that one.
    Blessings from Jennifer's.
