Home is Just a Thought Away

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am a lover of home.  A meeting canceled?  I'm filled with delight to just stay home. An unexpected snow day?  Great! Another opportunity to chill at my place.  Love it!

Wouldn't it be great if we could be like Dorothy from the movie "Wizard of Oz," and click our heels together and be instantly home?

When something bothers me at work, click. click.  I'm home.

When stuck in traffic, click,click.

When I'm in line at Wal-Mart behind a person with a bazillion coupons who also wants to comparison shop with 5 sale papers from other retailers, and on the next aisle over is a family that has a screaming crying kid who. Will. Not. Stop. Crying... Click, click.

Well, you get the idea.

In a way we can instantly transport ourselves home, because home is just a thought away.  I can visualize my home and see myself there anytime I want.  No, it doesn't get me out of the situation, but it does calm me down.

Sometimes, after hearing news like the bombings at the Boston Marathon, or the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, I desperately want to go Home.  I want to be able to click my heels and instantly arrive at my heavenly home where there is no more death, dying or even crying.

I may not be able to click my heels and go Home, but I can fix my thoughts on Home.

Colossians 3:1-2 New Living Translation:

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Instead of dwelling on the horrible things happening in this world, think about the grace God has extended.  Think about His love. Think about His promises.

When asked "what is this world coming to?" be ready with an answer.  It's coming to the most exciting time ever, the end of the Age.  The time when Christ comes to take His people Home. Don't you want to be ready to go?
They say Home is where the heart is. I think Home is where your thoughts dwell. Think about the things of heaven. Think about Home.

Question for you:  Should the time for you to go Home be today, are you ready? Do you need to know the Way home? Leave a message in the comments - I'll be glad to show you the Way.

I'm linking this post with the #TellHisStory community of writers at Jennifer Dukes Lee's blog.  Because His story is that He has made a way Home for you.

  1. Jerralea, I too have felt the ache for Home. The pain of the world hurts so deeply. Let's keep reminding each other that this NOT the end of the story.

  2. I really love the meaning of your post! It got me thinking about home in a way I never have... but it really is true that we can transport ourselves to our homes in a thought and an instant. I am so thankful for that... next time I get stressed in a situation, I am going to think of this.
Loved the thoughts you shared at the end especially.

    Have a blessed day♥

  3. I love your response to "What is the world coming to?" I am going to steal this thought the next time someone makes that comment in my presence. Love it!

  4. Dear Jerralea
Wouldn't it be nice if we could fix everything with a click-click!! My husband thinks much along the same lines. He always says that all these terrible things that happens also tells us that our Lord Jesus is returning soon. He already overcame this world. This is one battle we KNOW has been won already.
    Blessings

  5. You sound like me. I, too, am a confirmed "homebody." And thinking about Home with a capital "H" is important. It takes the focus away from the pain, suffering and sadness and puts it instead on the very real message that Christ has prepared the ultimate HOME for us through His grace. Thanks for your thoughts.

  6. Great post! I often pray "to go home". Times are so ugly that some days I just don't know what the people in this old world are thinking. But I know the Lord is just allowing more time for more to come to Him. We must work to lead others to Jesus. It is His grace and He will keep extending it until He is ready to take us HOME! Thank you and hope you have a wonderful day.
