Your King Comes

Did you just ever need to be saved from something?

People need to be saved from tyranny, bullying and aggression, but most often from the bad choices they have made in their own lives.

Back in the time of the crucifixion, the Jews were only interested in having a political King. A King who could get them. Out. Of. Their. Mess.

They didn't realize the bigger mess was their spiritual lives and it was more important to be saved spiritually than politically. After all, your spiritual life lasts forever.

John 12

12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

What a busy week in Jesus' life!  The resurrecting of Lazarus, the adoration of Mary with her alabaster box, the crowds paying homage to Jesus as He rode a lowly donkey through the streets.

And that was just the beginning of the most momentous week this world has ever seen.

It's kind of ironic that the King of the Universe would show up riding the foal of a donkey.  I mean, it's not even a full grown donkey!  You'd think He would be riding a pure white palomino horse decked out in royal purple with trappings of silver and gold.

But God never does anything in the way we would think.  His ways are higher, purer.

God has always intended that anyone at all can approach Him.  You don't have to be part of the upper crust, one of blue-blooded royalty, nor even Ivy-League educated. He came for the thief, the prostitute, the crooked politician (otherwise known as the tax collector in scripture).  You could be the cutter, the crazy person crying in the tombs. You can be the poorest of the poor and He will take you in. You just have to have a searching repentant heart and you can find your Savior.

In essence, He said on that long ago Palm Sunday, "You don't have to be afraid anymore.  Here I am, Your King comes, dressed just like you and riding an animal just like you do.  Come to me, just as you are. I will save you from yourself."

And isn't that what we all need?  Just to be saved from ourselves ....

I'm adding this post to my Fearless series because we don't need to be afraid; our Savior has come!

I'm also joining this post to the community at #TellHisStory at Jennifer Dukes Lee.  His story is that He came to save us from ourselves.

  2. Hi Jerralea! This is a beautiful post. I'm so grateful that His ways are higher than my ways... His perfect way was to provide a King on a donkey. A King with the power and authority to save us ~ even from ourselves!
I'm so glad you visited my blog today! Have a beautiful Easter celebration with our Redeemer!
    Blessings and love ~ Mary
