Rest By The Water

When I was a little girl, my dad was always trying to get me to take naps.  He would coax me to lie down and I would always say, "Nooooooooo, I'm not sleepy yet."  I thought the worst idea in the world was to take a nap.  There was always much more interesting things to do.

That has been many years ago.  Now, I'd gladly take a nap whenever possible.  I've come to understand the value of rest.  In fact, there are times, when I crave rest.

Sometimes rest is not napping but just having a time when there is nothing to do and time to just "be."  A time of being unplugged from modern devices and plugged IN to the Creator. A quiet time of listening and not talking.  A time to meditate.

Ever notice how calming it is to be near the water?  I think the Lord is partial to water.  He spent a lot of time around the sea of Galilee, after all!

When I first got a computer and learned about wallpaper  and backgrounds, I downloaded a lot of scenes near beaches, lakes and streams.  If a picture had an empty chair or hammock, so much the better.  I felt like the picture beckoned me to come, lay in the hammock and rest.  If I can't go to the water physically, at least I can go mentally!

Five Minute Friday

This post was written in response to the prompt "rest" at 5 Minute Friday writing challenge sponsored at Lisa-Jo Baker: tales from a Gypsy Mama.  She challenges us to write for 5 minutes with no revising or second-guessing yourself. Give it a try!

  1. That is so true. When we're little we fight the idea of going to bed or taking a nap--we don't want to miss anything. Now we crave it.

    Nice post.

  2. Very nice. I really enjoy the times that I am able to just relax and have me time.
