When Afraid - Trust

Lately, I've been participating in Lisa-Jo Baker's 5 Minute Friday.  You write for 5 minutes on her choice of word.  Write without endless revisions or second-guessing yourself.

Today's word is:

AFRAID

When I was a little girl, I learned this verse:

Psalm 56:3 KJV

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
I would repeat this when I was afraid at night.  (I was afraid at night - a lot!  Mostly my fears were wrapped up in the fear of mice.  I always was afraid one would crawl up on my bed while I was in it!) I would tuck the covers up all around me and then repeat "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee," over and over until I fell asleep.
I've grown out of that fear, but if something else comes up that causes me to be afraid, I will automatically think of that scripture.
In 2013, my word for the year is "fearless," so I thought "afraid" an appropriate choice for 5 minute Friday for me to cover.  When I got to thinking about it, though, it seems to me that Psalm 56:3 says it all.  If you trust Him, there is no need to be afraid.

I trust Him - I am positive He has my best interest at heart.  Anything that happens to me will work out for my good.  (See Romans 8:28)

Do you believe that for you, too?

  1. I do believe it, but it's hard sometimes. It's a lot harder since I became a parent, but I keep trying.
