F.F.F.-02.08.13

I begin my weeks with writing a Daybook and end with reflecting on the good things on Friday.  It takes the place of writing in a diary.  (And I'm sure, a lot more legible!)

1,  Our anniversary fell on Wednesday this week.  37 years with the same spouse is definitely a blessing. It seems so funny to look back at those two 20 year-olds who were ready to take on the world.  We have changed in so many ways over the years, but one thing has not changed:  our commitment to each other.   We haven't done anything special yet to celebrate.  When we do, I'm sure it will make another Friday's Fave Five list.

2.  Oh. My. Goodness:  I have to share something with you that made me giddy the first time I read it:

Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
as long as I live.
Psalm 23:6 Holman Christian Study Bible

I thought, oh my word, can this be translated correctly? The King James Version says surely instead of only, and follow instead of pursue.  I headed right to my Strong's Dictionary of Hebrew and Greek and looked both these words up.  Yes!  Those words can be translated in that way.  I also found other translations of the bible that translate them in the same manner.

Now, you may think, like I did, "Wait a minute, what about when bad things happen to me, that is not goodness and it sure doesn't feel like faithful love."  I mulled it over for awhile and I felt like the Lord is saying that all the things that happen to me end up being for my good.  It's Romans 8:28 coming into play.  Whatever happens to a child of God will work out for good in the end because it accomplishes His purpose for my life (and the lives of whom I may affect).

And what about the word pursue? The word translated pursue, râdaph, also has "to run after" and "chase" in its meaning.  I'm talking about His goodness and love is going to chase after you!  You can't get away from it!

I didn't mean to go all "bible study" on you, but the revelation of this scripture just made my week.  I am just so excited about it, I kind of feel like dancing through the house!

3.  Hershey's Kisses with Caramel- I may or may not have a bag of them in my desk drawer .... So creamy and yummy.

4.  I had an opportunity to have dinner with my babygirl this week.  Any time I get to spend time with my kids, it is definitely a highlight.

5.  Quote of the week:

That is what it means to walk in godly fear. It means you have such a fellowship with your Father that your concern is not what is HE going to do to me. But What am I doing to him?

… Ralph Juthman – Living Clean in Babylon – Sermon Central

To me, that is the whole crux of the matter when you talk about grace and legalism.  It's not that we have to follow a bunch of rules and  regulations; but, if our heart is right, we will be so in love with Jesus, we would never want to hurt Him with our actions.

And so ends another week on the Journey.  I hope you have had a wonderful week.  Why don't you share your highlights?  You can link up at the lovely Susanne's blog, Living to Tell the Story.

  4. I smiled as I read about that scripture and what you "found". It's so exciting when God reveals a truth to our hearts.

Congratulations on your anniversary! 37 years and still going strong. What a wonderful testimony of commitment you two are!

  5. Exactly...on your last paragraph (grace and legalism). It's frustrating the extremes of both, yet if we truly knew just how much He loves us, living holy and righteously before Him is a pleasure!

  6. Wow, two Bible revelations in one FFF! I thought I loved your first one, and then when I read the second -- so interesting. There's lots of talk around here about grace vs. legalism, and this quote sure provides the balance I think is missing in much of the conversation.

    Have a great week, Jerralea.

  9. How often I've sung that hymn (Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me...) and not focused on what you've highlighted this week. Wonderful indeed. Happy anniversary, Jerri!
