Rooted and Thankful

On Fridays, I love to stretch myself by participating in Lisa-Jo's 5 minute Friday blog party.  Lisa-Jo gives us a word and we write for 5 minutes, writing from the heart, and not doing endless revisions of what we have written.  Just plain and simple off-the-cuff writing.  Visit her at her blog, Lisa-Jo Baker: tales from a Gypsy Mama, if you would like to participate.

Today's word is ....

ROOTS

They say that trees that don't have a deep, established system of roots will not be able to stand when harsh winds come their way.

Tree Rooted By Stream
I think that people who are not rooted in Christ will not be able to stand when the winds of adversity come (as we know they will).

What does it mean to be rooted?  I think it means drawing nourishment from Him.  Abiding in Him.  Having a faith in the bedrock doctrine that you know that you know.  If you are firmly rooted, you won't be tempted to go along with every wind of change that comes along.

Because you will know what is true.

You will know what is from Him.

I love this scripture that talks about roots:
Colossians 2:7 (KJV)
Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

Did you notice that if you are rooted, you'll be overflowing with thanksgiving?

What a perfect scripture for this Thanksgiving month!

Show your roots by sharing gratitude!

  1. What a great verse! And I agree, being rooted means we have to be full of His words - and that is where the work is, filling us with His words.
