Blogging Award

Some weeks back, one of my newer readers, Diana, awarded me the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. I was surprised and honored that she thought of me and my humble blog. Please visit Diana at her blog, A Fragile Clay Jar With a Treasure Inside.  I've enjoyed her pieces that she has written and encouraged her to post more frequently.

The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award is an interesting award because it requires that the nominated person tell of seven things about themselves that their readers do not know, and for them in turn to nominate seven other lady bloggers who they feel deserve this award as well.

Since receiving the award, I've been mulling it over because frankly, I don't think there's seven things about me that you don't know.  After 600+ posts, there's just not much left to tell.  Also, it's going to be tough to find seven bloggers who are not award-free to share with you ...

Here's my seven things, and if I have mentioned them before, please forgive me:

1. When I was a child, I wanted to move to Africa and be an animal doctor.  (This idea was influenced by some books I had read.)  This did not work out for me because a) I hate heat and would die living in Africa, and b) I only like to look at animals in pictures, I don't like to touch them in real life.

2.  My next ambition was to be a spy.  (Again, influenced by books I had read.) This did not work out for me because it turns out that I am the most unobservant person on the planet.  International intrigue could be going on right under my nose and I would never know it.

3.  I once had aspirations to be a violinist.  Yes, it's true.  What stopped me was the fact three different times I broke my arm.  You just can't play a violin wearing a cast.

4.  I also thought it would be cool to be a majorette and twirl a baton.  I talked my mom into signing me up for a class and buying me a baton.  (This was at the same time I was taking violin lessons.)  Yes, you guessed it. A broken arm stole my dream. A baton twirler needs both arms.

5.   When I was a newlywed, I thought it would be great to write a cookbook.  I gave up on the idea as time when on because I have the pickiest family on the planet.  It's kind of disheartening for an artiste in the kitchen to have all her meals shot down.

6.  My husband and I were once Amway distributors.  We wanted to build a group up to Diamond and have seminars and teach people how to change their lives.  We just didn't like selling soap!

7.  One ambition that has stuck with me my whole life is the desire to write.  This blog is my biggest achievement in that area to date, and it brings me a lot of joy.  I'm still dreaming to be published in print someday.

And now, for my seven nominees for the award,

The award goes to:

1.  Adventures in the Ballpark - I love the writer of this blog, Mare Ball.  She and I grew up in the same era and I love to see her spin on things.

2. Karen's Korner - Karen and I also have a lot in common - growing up in Florida during the sixties and seventies, and we participate in a lot of the same blog parties. She sings in a group called "Still Magnolias."  That name cracks me up every time I see it!

3. A Haven for Vee - This is a new blog I've visited recently.  Vee features a lot of beautiful photography and hosts a Notecard Party once a month that I'm considering joining.

4.  Achieving Clarity- May is another wonderful writer that grew up the same time I did.  Her posts always makes me think. She is doing a great exercise in writing 15 minutes a day based on the book, "A Writer's Book of Days," by Judy Reeves.

5. Saved Sister - Wendy has a heart for missions and children's ministry - and she shares great recipes, too.

6.Together We Save - Denise is one of the hardest working bloggers I know.  She is constantly on the lookout for coupon savings to share.  She posts hourly!

7. Beneath the Surface:  Breath of Faith - Dawn is a Christian blogger who does book reviews and writes on Scripture.  She calls herself Modern Day Disciple.

Thanks, Diana, for thinking of me.

  3. What a treat to receive your email and then to discover myself in such great company! Thank you for thinking of me.
Reading your 7 things really does tell me we grew up at the same time. African explorer...in the a/c and not coming into contact with actual live animals? I would have been with you on that adventure.
And spying...did you happen to read Harriet the Spy? My favorite book in 4th grade. I don't know how many times I read that book that year. I do know I carried a notebook around for weeks jotting down observation about family, neighbors and friends.
I hope you know that I enjoy your blog as well. Thank you so much for including me!
