Opportunity To Do Good

Today, I'm joining up with Lisa-Jo at The Gypsy Mama's blog to participate in 5 minute Friday.  The theme is to write for 5 minutes on the topic without revisions.  Today's word is:

OPPORTUNITY

When I saw the word opportunity, this scripture came to mind:

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10

So many times you hear the question asked, "Why am I here?"  You were put here to do good!  Plain and simple, it is the calling of all God's children.

The word says, as we have opportunity.  I don't think we are meant to go out of our way to do good works, but to be watchful, looking for ways to bless others.

I know that many times I have good intentions, but poor follow-through. I need to be alert and looking for opportunities.

Opportunities to lift someone up, to give a kind word - to be a blessing in someone's life.

And I'm ESPECIALLY supposed to do good things for my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Lord, please help me not to be so busy that opportunities to bless slip right on by me! Give me ears to hear when opportunity knocks, eyes to see what needs to be seen. And then give me a willing heart to do something about the things I've seen.

STOP

  1. I love that scripture. A friend of mine was just telling me this week of what she calls the 12-month-club...in which they keep their eyes open for an opportunity to serve someone...to do something unexpected at the Lord's prompting...to do good. Thank you for reminder and the affirmation of watching for good.
    Keep up the God work

  2. This is very good, Jerralea. Sometimes we get so "busy" we can easily overlook just how many little opportunities for doing good there are in every single day. A smile, a kind word, a helping hand, a prayer.

Life is largely made up of small opportunities. We ought to appreciate and make the most of them--then when bigger opportunities arise, we will not be so apt to miss those either!

    Blessings,
    Sheila :)

  5. Wow. That just sums up how I should think throughout my day -- every day. Everyone who crosses our path is an opportnity.
